Walks from the pitches

  • Pop-up site 10 minutes’ drive from Beddgelert in Eryri National Park
  • Yr Wyddfa 15 minutes’ walk and Betws-y-Coed half an hour’s drive
  • Peaceful off-grid wilderness site where firepits are allowed
When you’re trying to get far, far away from the madding crowd, do it North Wales style. Take yourself off to Llyndy Isaf, a tiny and low-maintenance site on a National Trust-owned farm in the middle of Eryri (formerly Snowdonia) National Park. While facilities really are of the wild camping variety – a non-drinking water tap and a loo in a wooden hut – the views from the peaceful pitches looking over to Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and Llyn Dinas are simply stunning. In such a remote spot, you’ll also have to forgo showers, electricity and wifi, but that’s a small inconvenience when you’re in such a dramatic setting. You can also look forward to colourful sunsets and dazzling celestial displays on clear evenings as you sit around your campfire – buy food for barbecues in Beddgelert (10 minutes’ drive). You have a choice of many walks from the pitches, and there’s easy access to the Watkin Path (to the summit of Yr Wyddfa) 10 minutes’ drive away. There’s just one rule here, really: guests are expected to respect the land, take their rubbish with them and leave the site exactly as they found it.

Llyndy Isaf Farm primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Excellent location and view.

Disliked The parking arrangements are confusing. The website states that free parking is available, but upon arrival we were directed to a public car park with its own parking charges.

The toilet facilities are also not properly explained on the website. They appear to use a water recycling system that produces a very unpleasant smell, making the toilets quite challenging to use.

Liked Easy to find with the what 3 words. Site was as described. Ground good. Great location. The stream that flowed at the side of the fields was fresh and could paddle- (slippy stones so take some shoes).
We loved being around the sheep and cows too

Ffridd Llyndy Isaf primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Quiet away from the hustle & bustle of even the usual campsites. Surroundings were stunning, think next time we will just do some walks from around the site.

Disliked Nothing really. You explained what was on offer and we knew what we would be getting.

Ffridd Llyndy Isaf primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Remote, close to all the trails with some great views from the campsite itself. Handy, clean toilet on site too

Disliked Lamb poop everywhere which attracts the flies to the point of needing a head net. Most pitches are on slopes and its really small so your all close together losing the wild feeling.

Ffridd Llyndy Isaf primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great location at the foot of Yr Ywddfa. Out of the way but easy to get to. Beautiful views. It felt wild and close to Nature but still has flushing toilet and water. The car park is just down the bottom of the camp area .
The owners were easy to contact, responded quickly, and friendly and helpful.

Disliked If you have a small, low car the track going in might feel rough and bumpy. That said our Mondeo was the largest car there, plenty of Fiestas and Polos made it up.
I did discover the neighbours had no sense of personal space, and despite my best efforts I ended up with a few midgie bites.

Ffridd Llyndy Isaf primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The wild camping feel to the campsite was spot on, parking was great and not too far from the campsite, easy walk to the start of the Watkins path and great smaller walks around

Disliked Overall a great place, only problems I have is there could be a second sign at the final gate you enter before getting to the car park saying that the parking for the campsite is through there, and also when I went the toilet flusher was broken

What3Words: spiking.footpath.recent The sat nav will take you off the A498 over a bridge and to the right over a cattle grid with the farm name “Llyndy Isaf” on a sign post. If travelling from the Capel Curig, you’ll be turning left over a bridge after passing Caffe Gwynant or if travelling via Beddgelert the turning is on the right after passing Bryn Dinas Camping pods. Carry on on this track, there might be gates shut. You will pass the farmhouse on your left, carry on over the bridge and just before the next stone building turn to the left, up a hill and through the gateway, the next gateway is where you should park. There will be a sign “Bothy Parking” on a slate to be seen here. Do not drive up further than this point.
