  • Family-friendly site 100 metres from the promenade
  • A 15-minute walk from Barmouth beach; 25 minutes to the town centre
  • Playground and a shop on site; on National Cycle Route 8
Just 100 metres from the sea, Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a rather splendid base for a break in northwest Wales. This family-friendly site is a five-minute stroll from Barmouth’s promenade, and sandy Barmouth beach is a pleasant 15 minutes’ walk away – or a quick ride on the small land train that travels up and down the promenade. When you’re not sea fishing from the shore, taking a peaceful paddle or watching the kids bounce on the trampolines on the beach, head to Barmouth Harbour (half an hour’s walk), the departure point for boat trips and off-shore fishing. An amusement park and leisure centre are other entertainment options in town, where foodies will find plenty of cafés and restaurants. Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a convivial spot: families, couples, friendly bikers and rallies (outside of peak season, please) are all welcome, as are backpackers and solo travellers (at a discount during low season). There’s a playground for the kids, and keen cyclists are also catered for: National Cycle Route 8 runs past the site. It’s well equipped too, with water on all pitches, washing-up facilities and a modern shower block with shaver points, hairdryer and straighteners. There’s also a launderette, baby-change facilities with a baby bath, Elsan waste disposal points, a drive-on motorhome drain, tarmac roads and CCTV. Helpful staff are available 24 hours a day, gas and wifi are sold at reception, and there’s a shop on site, plus a local bus stop nearby.

What customers say

This well-kept campground offers a great location near the beach and Barmouth. Guests rave about friendly staff, clean amenities, and spacious, level sites. Showers and restrooms are a bit dated but clean. Beach access and the boardwalk are big pluses. Occasional Wi-Fi issues and distance to facilities were noted by a few.

Liked Location. Felt we were squeezed at the other end on the site with many pitches inbetween being "kept for best" with great views Electric point didn't work so plugged into next doors neighbour plugged into next doors. Tried to book on their website and says fully booked yet site empty. Did move pitch and staff very happy to do so no probs at all. It just needs bringing into 2025

Disliked Toilets dated, cold, heaters not on and switch box screwed shut, windows screwed solid in the open position you need to see what other sites are offering in the area as these are the worst we have visited.

Oh the Wifi don't get me started.

From the manager: Morning,
Thank you for your feedback, i would just like to put a few answers to your questions for other campers

You requested a hard standing, no grass pitch, which we only have 10 of that type, the booking system will auto select any of these that are available, we move people, if possible, if the customer requests to do so once onsite, which you did and we obliged with the move.
The wifi - unfortunately we have a couple of black spot areas but the rest of the site has improved with the fibre link we now have onsite - we are constantly trying to improve the service.

The pitch you were selected for is actually requested by other campers and not liked by others, this is personal preference.

If you had asked for a different pitch type, i.e hardstanding with grass or fully serviced then you would have had much more of a selection, unfortunately this is a 3rd party booking portal issue that it cannot offer multiple pitch types.

Electric hook ups are a constant maintenance issue and once reported , the electrician is called to sort.

Thank you for pointing out the heater in the shower area was not working as it should, this has been looked at and even though it has a tamper cover someone had managed to mess with the settings, we will now look at a lockable version.

The two small, letter box type windows in two of the showers are in a semi permanent open state to allow air circulation.

Our toilets are dated but we do try to keep them maintained and clean for our customers, there are better and there are worse in the local area.

We do have one of our toilet blocks at the planning stage to be refitted.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us, we wish you all the best

Liked The site is very clean and it's only a short distance to
the beach.
The staff were really friendly and welcoming and
the pitches are of a good size.

Disliked The shower..
The showers are very dated and to use them, you
have to keep pushing the button in every few minutes.
Because the cubicle is small, there is limited space
to put your clothes, so you need an extra towel to
put on top of them to keep them dry.
They really should be modernised as they let down
the site.

Liked Great Site.
We were only there for 2 nights.
The weather was not our side - blustery with horizontal rain.
A real plus was the tarmac and gravel everywhere so no mud in our van and in the facilities.
Very close to the beach, its one of the reasons we actually went there.
The town is within walking distance so separate but not out of reach.
Late October was not the best time of year but we squeezed in a trip before the cold arrived.
Clean toilets, hot water, covered washing area - all very good.
Friendly Staff, all clean and well organised.

Disliked Nothing really to dislike.
We thought the ramp was a little steep for us but our old van made it down and up so no problem.

Local attractions

The burial site of Cors y Gedol (10 minutes’ drive) dates from about 4000 BC. Not much is left of the original stone mound, but the sea views alone are well worth the hike, plus you can push on to climb the slopes of Moelfre from here. If mountains are your thing, check out Penygader (35 minutes) and Snowdon (50 minutes), Wales’s highest peak. Got your mountain bike with you? Coed y Brenin Forest Park (half an hour) has eight purpose-build trails catering to all abilities and a skills area to practise your bunny hops, plus hiking paths taking in ruined copper mines, viewpoints and waterfalls. Speaking of which, at Dolgoch Falls (45 minutes), forested trails take you up close and personal to the cascades. At the Italianate-style village of Portmeirion (35 minutes), elegant architecture, pastel-coloured houses and lush subtropical gardens will have you believe you’re in Portofino. Stop for afternoon tea and don’t forget to buy some pottery.
