  • Rural site on a family-run working farm in Llandrinio
  • A 10-minute drive to Welshpool; 35 minutes to Lake Vyrnwy
  • Severn Way passes through the farm; local pub a few minutes' walk
Perhaps you’re planning a long-distance hike, or maybe you’re more of a leisure stroller… either way, Trinio Camping is in a most handy spot for all sorts of rural walks. This friendly family-run Mid Wales farm site is in the little village of Llandrinio, surrounded by gorgeous Powys countryside and with views up to Admiral Rodney’s Pillar and Breidden Hill. It’s a laidback place with pitches across several paddocks and simple facilities in the form of toilets, showers, chemical disposal and a washing-up area. Getting out to explore on foot could barely be easier, as the Offa’s Dyke Path is close by and the Severn Way passes right through the fields on site. If you’ve got other outdoor pursuits in mind, quad biking, golf, go karting, paintballing, horse riding, mountain biking and watersports are all nearby too, and there are plenty of fishing spots, castles, gardens and historic buildings around for those seeking a quieter time. Although this is a properly rural site, it’s not hidden away down lots of little winding lanes, so getting out and about should be straightforward. Having the A483 nearby means you can get to Welshpool in about 10 minutes and Oswestry in 15; heading over the border to Shrewsbury should take only a little longer at about 25 minutes. Closer to home, a few minutes’ walk will get you up to the village centre for a popular local pub and a well-stocked shop where you can pick up all the bits you need for a picnic or an evening by your barbecue.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked My family and I booked this campsite for a short break to visit some of the waterfalls in the area.
The Trinio campsite met all our needs perfectly. It was quiet and very well maintained, with the facilities being kept to a high standard. When we arrived on Monday to check-in, we were met by the host who was very friendly and was able to give recommendations of local attractions/sites to visit.
The site is about a 10 minute walk to a local shop at a garage forecourt for supplies, or a 10-15 minute drive to Welshpool where you will find the likes of Tesco, Aldi and B&M if the local shop doesn't have what you need.
We left on Wednesday with a view of booking at this camp site again in the future. We will be back, and thank you for a peaceful break. :)

Disliked Packing up and going home.

Liked Camped from Friday to Sunday as a mini break for my son (15yr) and I. We really enjoyed our stay at the site, and found the facilities spotlessly clean. We were met on arrival and shown where to camp. The owner was brilliant, she asked what we had planned and offered some ideas of what we could do. What makes this site particular appealing for us was a small 15 minute walk to a fantastic pub showing live football and the most amazing Indian food. We loved it that much we returned on the Saturday night too instead of cooking our steak. Trust me, I'm from the midlands and known a good Balti when I find one!

There are some great walks from the site, we decided to climb to see Admiral Rodney's Column. The views were breath taking and certainly worth the walk.

In terms of the camp field, we hired a grass pitch with electrical hook up. All pitches looked nice and flat and well kept.

Disliked The site was fantastic and I can't fault it one bit. The only point I'd make is the walk to the pub you'll go past Rodney House. Here a dog jumped at us through the fence and although couldn't climb the fence did mean that both my son and I jumped into the road into on coming traffic. The dog really did catch us both by surprise which could have been much worse.

Local attractions

Spotted Breidden Hill from the site? Head over to take a closer look – it’s only about 10 minutes away by car and has a circular walking route to follow. For other walks nearby, take a stroll through Llanymynech Rocks Nature Reserve (10 minutes’ drive) or seek out the waterfall trail to Pistyll Rhaeadr (35 minutes). Lake Vyrnwy (35 minutes) is another fine place for a walk, either taking the lakeside route or following the sculpture trail, and it also has watersports activities including kayaking and windsurfing. And if all of that sounds a bit exhausting, maybe a ride on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway (25 minutes) will suit? For different days out, have a taste of local history with visits to Powis Castle and Garden (20 minutes) and Chirk Castle (half an hour) or board a canal boat to float across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (half an hour). The sculpture trails at the British Ironwork Centre (20 minutes) make for a fascinating outing too.
