  • Quiet wildlife haven site on the banks of the River Wye
  • Half an hour’s drive to Elan Valley; 40 minutes to the Brecon Beacons
  • 800 yards of private fishing; pub a short walk away; walks close by
Ready for riverside relaxation and a reel of outdoor activities in the Powys countryside? You certainly don’t need to be a fishing pro to have a chilled-out time at Boatside Caravan and Camping… while it’s a good place to bring out your own fishing rod, the riverbank also makes for a peaceful spot simply to listen to the wildlife or watch the sun go down. Those of you who are keen fishers will be happy to find that there are 800 yards of private fishing on site. The site has fishing rights on the River Wye, so you might want to set your sights on the salmon and trout or get stuck into coarse fishing too (a licence is required). Your resting place is in the Wye Valley and well positioned for plenty more outdoor activities, whether it’s feeding red kites in the Elan Valley (half an hour’s drive) or tackling the mountains in the Brecon Beacons National Park (40 minutes). Those of you who want walks closer by won’t be disappointed either, as there are footpaths from the site. When you’re looking to top up your granola bar supply or perhaps grab the works for a barbecue or campfire on site, Builth Wells has food shops 10 minutes’ drive away. Pubs, cafés and restaurants are in plentiful supply here but whenever you’d prefer to knock back a few and leave the car behind, there are home-cooked meals and Wye Valley beers in the village pub 25 minutes’ walk away.

Bell tent

Liked Cleanliness, well maintained, location, views, friendliness of staff, quality of bell tent, price.

Disliked Not many toilets. Males have 2 urinals and one cubicle. Females 2 cubicles. Wasn't an issue particularly until the morning when there were a few people wanting to use them.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked what an outstanding little campsite. Quiet, spotlessly clean and well maintained. If your looking too relax or a baise to explore brecon/ bilth wells then look no further.
The owners are so helpful and friendly.
We stayed for the royal welsh show and they even offered to give us a lift in and provided taxi numbers to get back.
The honestly shop was such a lovely touch with everything from milk egg's and bacon to tent pegs and toilet rolls.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked This is not only a perfect location for the Royal Welsh Show but a great place to visit both the Brecon Beacons and mid Wales. Lovely and clean site, very peaceful, immaculately clean shower and toilet facilities (whilst there is only currently one female and one male shower available Adam has planning permission and plans to have a new shower block for next summer), great washing up facilities for campers and a fab honesty shop. The grass with electric pitches were both level and spacious. The biggest thing for us was the lovely welcome by Adam & Tracey and the continued care given to campers, nothing is to much trouble. We stayed Sunday to Wednesday for the RWAS and Adam even took us down to the showground area, on the morning for both days that we went, you wouldn’t get many campsites that would go that extra mile to ensure you had the best experience. We will most definitely visit again and highly recommend .

Disliked Not that you really need it when camping in such a lovely place but there is no aerial signal for television.

Local attractions

Beers, burgers and other tasty dishes are all well and good, but Builth Wells (10 minutes’ drive) has more than just places to eat. There’s classic entertainment here in the form of a cinema, swimming pool and shops. The Royal Welsh Showground is on the outskirts (10 minutes) for events and festivals throughout the year, as is a golf course whenever you fancy a round. Got a pair of shoes that need breaking in? Pen y Fan (50 minutes) will soon have you hiking, although it’s not a simple feat, as it’s the highest mountain in Wales. Watersports are easy to find around the Brecon Beacons too, as Llangorse Lake (half an hour) has plenty to try out, plus boat hire and fishing. Hay-on-Wye (half an hour) might make a good choice for those of you with a mix of interests. As well as bookshops and galleries, there’s a castle plus paddleboarding and other watersports on the River Wye. Fancy going off for a pedal instead? The National Cycle Route 42 (10 minutes) runs through Hay-on-Wye.
