  • Quiet family-run site near Llanddewi Brefi, with lovely mountain views
  • A half-hour drive to Aberaeron; 35 minutes to Devil's Bridge Falls
  • Access to a mile and a half of fishing on the Teifi river; stargazing
Are the Cambrian mountains calling? Or could it be the coast? You’ll be able to do a bit of both at Cambrian Mountains Glamping and Camping, on the banks of the River Teifi in Ceredigion. This small family-run site has spectacular views of the Cambrian mountains – a little taster of what lies ahead if you’re venturing out for a hike among those hills. And what of the coast? Well, that’s about half an hour away by car for days out in the likes of Aberaeron, Aberystwyth or New Quay. A stay here puts you in a proper wildlife-rich rural retreat where you may well spot things like otters, kingfishers and buzzards as well as the resident ducks and swans. Being on the banks of the river also means easy access to fishing for those with the relevant licence – it’s just a five-minute walk from the site to a splendid mile and a half of riverbank, available from March to October, where you can try your luck fishing for salmon, trout and sea trout. Looking out from the site, the peaceful views may give you the impression that you’ve landed in the middle of nowhere, but in fact the little village of Llanddewi Brefi is about a five-minute drive away for a shop and a pub, and the slightly larger Tregaron is about 10 minutes away. Facilities on site include showers, toilets, a washing-up area and access to a fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Liked We absolutely love this site. Perfectly clean, red hot showers, indoor pot wash and washing machine and dryer too. Views over the glorious hills and in a perfect location centrally to explore all the amazing things there are to do. With the added bonus of red kites above your head daily! The river was low this year due to the drought but I still managed to spot kingfishers, herons, sandpipers and green sandpipers as well as a great spotted woodpecker and an abundance of lovely song birds and farm birds including a redpoll and tree pippits, wildlife in abundance. The site is quiet and serene and family friendly. We love seeing the cows come down to the fields from milking at around 730am and went almost every morning to see them and be greeted by the wonderful David who is the most friendly gentleman ever, interacted and made friends with our 4 year old even helping him decide which cow he wanted to strap on the roof of the car to take home! (He also has lots of questions!) and never had a grumble even when he had a brown shower from a cow one morning! 😂 As ever Menna and John are perfect hosts. Even when they aren’t there and are on holiday themselves they could not be more accommodating and lovely, their daughters did an amazing job in their absence too. We come back every year for the simple fact we love the place, we adore the hosts and we feel happiest when we are here! :) see you next year John and Menna we can’t wait already!

Disliked What is there to dislike! It’s a glorious site with perfect facilities and fields and wildlife galore with space for the kids to run and play and be free!

Liked The setting is absolutely beautiful with views of the hills behind. It is so quiet especially at night.. loved that. The river is only a short walk away across the fields. It was very hot and the big tree and hedge took the edge off our exposure to the sun which we liked. Facilities are regularly cleaned and we liked the amount available. Showers nice and hot too. We loved it and would 100% stay here again

Local attractions

Getting up into the heart of the Cambrian mountains for a proper hike will take about half an hour in the car; for a little warm-up there are several trails you can follow directly from the site. For more strolls, head to Cors Caron Nature Reserve (15 minutes’ drive), where you can follow the old railway line or take the boardwalk around the reserve. Also very much worth a wander are Devil’s Bridge Falls (35 minutes), where a waterfall cascades into a stunning wooded gorge, and routes that take you to the ruins of Strata Florida Abbey (25 minutes). The National Trust estate at Llanerchaeron (half an hour) is another popular spot, with a walled garden, a wild park area and a lake as well as the John Nash-designed Georgian villa itself. And of course there are always the gorgeous walks of the Ceredigion Coast Path to add to the mix too – or you could head straight to lovely coastal towns like the colourful harbour town of Aberaeron (half an hour) or New Quay (40 minutes), the jumping-off point for dolphin-spotting trips and other sea safaris.
