  • Quiet family-run site near Llanddewi Brefi, with lovely mountain views
  • A half-hour drive to Aberaeron; 35 minutes to Devil's Bridge Falls
  • Access to a mile and a half of fishing along the Teifi riverbank
Are the Cambrian mountains calling? Or could it be the coast? You’ll be able to do a bit of both at Cambrian Mountains Glamping and Camping, on the banks of the River Teifi in Ceredigion. This small family-run site has spectacular views of the Cambrian mountains – a little taster of what lies ahead if you’re venturing out for a hike among those hills. And what of the coast? Well, that’s about half an hour away by car for days out in the likes of Aberaeron, Aberystwyth or New Quay. A stay here puts you in a proper wildlife-rich rural retreat where you may well spot things like otters, kingfishers and buzzards as well as the resident ducks and swans. Being on the banks of the river also means easy access to fishing for those with the relevant licence – it’s just a five-minute walk from the site to a splendid mile and a half of riverbank, available from March to October, where you can try your luck fishing for salmon, trout and sea trout. Looking out from the site, the peaceful views may give you the impression that you’ve landed in the middle of nowhere, but in fact the little village of Llanddewi Brefi is about a five-minute drive away for a shop and a pub, and the slightly larger Tregaron is about 10 minutes away. Facilities on site include showers, toilets, a washing-up area and access to a fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Liked: Arrived on the site and the views did not dissapoint what an amazing place, we was met on arrival by the lovely Menna (owner) who straight away gave a welcome pack and some leaflets on local things to do in the area and abit of history of the the site, pitches are of a good size managed a berghaus 6xl and air shelter with plenty of space for the van and still room for the kids to play. Shower block has 2 toilets/shower rooms which was perfect as they only have 8 pitches for tents/caravans, also was a washing machine and dryer for a small fee which we used. We visited the small river across the field where the kids (and myself had a paddle), we visited the lovely town new Quay where we went paddle boarding and seen the dolphins the afterwards had proper sea-side fish and chips followed by a delicous icecream from gelatos also on the beach front, we visited devil bridge and completed the long route (approx 1 hour and many steps later) was rewarded with a lovely pint at the hotel bar at the finish aslo visited the chocolate shop and train station which was all within walking distance. Overall a great bank holiday weekend spent even with a little rain. Would recommend Cambrian mountains glamping and camping and would visit again in the future.

Disliked: Nothing, but if you like to stay connected to the outside world then the signal is abit poor but camping is all about getting back to the great outdoors without distractions.

Liked: What a wonderful campsite! Beautiful views, very clean shower/toilet block, absolutely loved the sparkly walls! Coin operated washer/dryer if needed, also a fridge, also a EV charger! Individual water tap at each pitch. A brilliant welcome pack with lots of idea to do, including a menu for a banging Chinese takeaway in Tregaron! Will definitely be returning as a family hoilday but also for our honeymoon in one of them fabulous pods and hottub!

Disliked: I personally didn't mind the no wifi or bad phone signal, (got half a book read!) But others may struggle.

Liked: Amazing views, flat pitches with water tap and electrics possible, clean modern facilities which were nice and warm when used in night, use of a communal fridge, washing machine and dryer could be used with coins, peaceful site, welcoming owners and friendly fellow site users. Owners also run a dairy farm but as there are many pastures, we only saw the cows once which was a cute moooving experience and even they looked clean and content 😊 Thank you Menna for all your attention to detail evident on the site and for your first hand attentiveness when approached. We needed more days to do all you both included in the useful welcome literature pack so we hope to return again as we really enjoyed the whole experience. Mark & Barbara x

Liked: Small site, modern facilities, great having our own water tap each, pitch was spacious. The campsite owners were very friendly.

Disliked: A few of the neighbours were a bit noisy (from the privately owned static caravans I think), music turned on at 8pm and a bit rowdy by the campfire. I'm guessing the campsite have good policies to keep it peaceful, but no control over the static caravans. Although all was quiet before 11pm (except for the farm animals!)

Local attractions

Getting up into the heart of the Cambrian mountains for a proper hike will take about half an hour in the car; for a little warm-up there are several trails you can follow directly from the site. For more strolls, head to Cors Caron Nature Reserve (15 minutes’ drive), where you can follow the old railway line or take the boardwalk around the reserve. Also very much worth a wander are Devil’s Bridge Falls (35 minutes), where a waterfall cascades into a stunning wooded gorge, and routes that take you to the ruins of Strata Florida Abbey (25 minutes). The National Trust estate at Llanerchaeron (half an hour) is another popular spot, with a walled garden, a wild park area and a lake as well as the John Nash-designed Georgian villa itself. And of course there are always the gorgeous walks of the Ceredigion Coast Path to add to the mix too – or you could head straight to lovely coastal towns like the colourful harbour town of Aberaeron (half an hour) or New Quay (40 minutes), the jumping-off point for dolphin-spotting trips and other sea safaris.
