  • Well-kept flat pitches with lovely views over the Dyfi estuary
  • Aberystwyth and Dyfi Bike Park both 20 minutes' drive away
  • Launch kayaks or paddleboards on the river from the site
If lovely scenery and lots of nature all around are on your shopping list for your West Wales camping break, then the setting of Ynyslas Camping should suit you rather well. This chilled-out Ceredigion campsite is in a national nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest, with splendid views out over the Dyfi estuary. The estuary, of course, leads down to the coast – and it’s not far away at all, with the dunes of Ynyslas beach just under a mile and a half away (about a half-hour walk or couple of minutes in the car). From there you can pick up the Wales Coast Path to see some more of this gorgeous part of the Welsh coast, do some fishing or just hang out to see what kind of wildlife you can spot (out at sea or in the air perhaps). If you want to get out to sea, well, that’s possible too – there’s boat parking on site, and you can launch or store boats at the village boatyard less than a mile away. If you’re travelling with smaller craft, you can launch kayaks or paddleboards onto the estuary from the site. Staying on land, there are lots of bike trails nearby and the excellent Dyfi Bike Park is about 25 minutes’ drive away. Pitches here are flat and well maintained, with access to fresh water and waste disposal as well as toilets (compost loos and portable toilets). You’re welcome to bring a barbecue to cook meals; pick up the essentials in Borth, a couple of miles away, or bigger Aberystwyth (20 minutes’ drive). The coast, the local villages and the main town all have plenty to offer by way of places to eat out too – not forgetting the option of a Michelin-starred meal 10 minutes’ drive away in Furnace.

What customers say

Quiet, basic campsite with great views and a chill vibe. Visitors love the friendly owners, short walk to the beach, and clean restrooms. A few noted missing trash cans and no hot water for dishes, but most had a fantastic time and plan to come back.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Very peaceful, no frills site.
Lovely clean toilets with a nest of swallows!
The sound of all the wild birds in the reedy boundary behind my spot
Close to a wonderful beach -a dogs' paradise- with handy toilets and information centre half way along backed by sand dunes
Also you can walk all to Borth beside a river and along raised banks through reed beds where you can hear what I think were reed buntings/warblers etc.

Disliked I left a day early as a big alsatian dog was also on the site, off lead. My dog can be reactive. I did explain this and asked if the other dog could stay on a lead, but when I returned to the site at the end of the day it ran up and ran in circles round my car. I have since been assured of the wonderful temperament of this particular dog and that well behaved dogs are allowed to run free there.
My own dog did not act aggressively at all and got on well with the hoards of others we met on the beach, but tends to guard his patch and I avoid situations where there is any risk of a dog altercation, which can be horrible, so I decided to leave.
I contacted the owners and they agreed to a refund but in our correspondence it seemed that I was being put at fault for having a reactive dog. One remark was that Nice People Have Nice Dogs. Bit unfair, many nice people adopt dogs which can have all sorts of problems.
I think a lot of people would be un-nerved by a dog like this one being loose, they are after all, guard dogs, so despite assurances, it's natural to be wary. Generally, there is a common sense rule of Dogs on Leads at camp sites. So it would be helpful if the dog policy here was clearly stated with the site information.

From the manager: Sorry you feel like this but we do feel that you are nervous around dogs of the larger breeds and as explained this one was a big softy.
We want everyone to be happy so we access dogs as they come on site, we didn't access your dog as you said it was unpredictable and very territorial. As we have never experienced this problem before we will take on board what you have said

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Lovely quite site Sandy beach about 15 minute walk. A back to basics site no EHU
Which was fine with us.
Two clean toilets

Disliked No Chemical emptying facility
No bins which was stated in advertising
But would of been nice to have had bins

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
We do state that we have no bins, however I did say to you that the chemical disposal was not working and work in progress as someone ran over it and I was behind with my jobs.
However I do take on board what you've said and appreciate your time and honestly.
We hope to see you again in the future.

Many thanks
Paul

Liked Easy to rock up and pitch where you like. Toilets were better than expected. Bonus fireworks on the beach after dark (because it was Bank Holiday I think).
