Cruachan farm caravan and camping park

  • Family-run park near the western end of Loch Tay
  • Loch Earn and Loch Lomond within an hour's drive
  • Laundry room on site; dogs welcome
Set in quiet countryside near the western end of Loch Tay and around an hour's drive from Loch Lomond, Cruachan Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a family-run site in a great position for sightseeing around the southern Highlands and central Scotland. Whatever kind of accommodation you opt for, you'll have access to a smart and spacious park with well-maintained amenities like a toilet and shower block and a laundry room. The site is well under a mile from the banks of Loch Tay and close to lots of other outdoor attractions: watersports, birdwatching and tracking down ancient burial sites are all popular pastimes you can get up to in the local area. It's also a 15 minutes' walk from Loch Tay Highland Lodges, where guests are welcome to use the facilities. Cruachan Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a five-minute drive to the east of Killin, a scenic spot with a castle, pubs, a supermarket and waterside walks around the gorgeous Falls of Dochart.

What customers say

This is a lovely, quiet campsite with beautiful scenery and friendly staff. Guests praise the spacious pitches, clean facilities, and ideal location for exploring the area and accessing Loch Tay. While some find the facilities basic or dated, many agree it offers great value for money and plan to return. Potential visitors should be aware that some pitches are sloped and booking activities in advance is advised.

Camping pod (four person, basic)

Liked Clean site, lovely views, next to Loch Tay. Our pod was close to toilets and washroom which was great, especially in the dark! Cafe on site selling lovely breakfast items and cakes. We have also camped here and stayed in one of the hobbit huts. Always had a good experience.

Disliked Nothing.

Liked The ability to check in late with our campervan.

Disliked Unfortunately we misunderstood the instructions & map which is collected from their nearby Tay Lodges so it would be worth putting in big bold letters on the pick up envelope to 'now return to the Farm' as the map does not relate to any route within Tay Lodges . Maybe we were the only ones lol!

Powered gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Location was ideal for us. The pitch was a very good size and ample room between pitches. We never tried the cafe and found the restaurant "the boathouse" excellent with good food and friendly staff.

Disliked The shower cubicles are very small and the curtains needed a wash. There was no attention to detail in the cleaning of the toilet/shower block, with the cobwebs having cobwebs on them. Someone was cleaning them as the sinks, toilet bowls and floors where getting cleaned. Just no detailing, cobwebs in corners and all round ceiling, dead flies on the window sills the whole ten days we were there.

Powered gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Peace and quiet, good, clean shower block.

Disliked Because of a residential caravan sitting waiting for placement, we couldn’t get our camper van close enough to the waste water area in order to empty it so meant we had to find and travel to another place with this facility.
Also the pitches were quite sloped.
Cafe closed.
Late check in (4pm) and early check out (10am) which is understandable for residential caravans etc but not for a simple gravel pitch site which (should) need no cleaning.

Camping pod (four person, basic)

Liked Good campsite overall. Location a plus. Loch-side position of adjoining Loch Tay campsite a bonus and restaurant very good quality and atmosphere.

Disliked Bathroom facilities were midrange. Warden chastised our party for using fixed gas BBQ attached to camper van (standard procedure in most, if not all, UK campsites) despite camp rules only stating no disposable BBQs which was evidently not what was in use.

Primitive grass tent campsite (five person)

Liked Almost everything actually! Even our eclectic weather. Our first trip with new tent etc and a learning curve, but will always look back on this one. Sure we’ll return someday with a proper heater and a full gas canister. 😁

Liked Killin village was very pretty.

Disliked The toilet/ shower block was outdated and grubby. Some of the facilities were broken. The facilities were not checked regularly, as despite the site not being busy, there was no toilet roll.

On arrival we had to park by reception and check in, but parking is limited and turning a camper van round to go to our pitch on the other site was…interesting.

Whilst we were advised of a water quality issue, the fact there is no clean water near the touring pitches was very inconvenient. It was mentioned that it was at reception, but they failed to mention how far away that was (across another field).

Local attractions

Starting locally, Killin Castle (five minutes' drive) is definitely a landmark to explore. While here, wander down past the pretty waters at the Falls of Dochart (five minutes) and keep an eye out for wildlife. Killin Golf Club (also five minutes) is a well-liked course with nine scenic landscaped holes to try, while just a little further away at Ben Lawers Dam (10 minutes) you can get a close-up view of one of Scotland's highest Munros. After exploring Loch Tay and the local area, it's a short enough drive to Loch Tay (20 minutes), where plenty of watersports and hiking trails are on offer. The village of Aberfoyle (an hour away) is very popular with off-road cyclists who appreciate its miles of well-maintained gravel tracks, and there's also a forest park with Go Ape, a visitor centre and a hide where beady-eyed visitors may spot red squirrels among the trees. For more heritage sights, try Castle Menzies (30 minutes), an imposing 16th-century clan seat, or Stirling Castle (an hour and 10 minutes), one of the most important and impressive historic buildings in Scotland.
