Cruachan farm caravan and camping park

  • Family-run park near the western end of Loch Tay
  • Loch Earn and Loch Lomond within an hour's drive
  • Laundry room on site; dogs welcome
Set in quiet countryside near the western end of Loch Tay and around an hour's drive from Loch Lomond, Cruachan Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a family-run site in a great position for sightseeing around the southern Highlands and central Scotland. Whatever kind of accommodation you opt for, you'll have access to a smart and spacious park with well-maintained amenities like a toilet and shower block and a laundry room. The site is well under a mile from the banks of Loch Tay and close to lots of other outdoor attractions: watersports, birdwatching and tracking down ancient burial sites are all popular pastimes you can get up to in the local area. It's also a 15 minutes' walk from Loch Tay Highland Lodges, where guests are welcome to use the facilities. Cruachan Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a five-minute drive to the east of Killin, a scenic spot with a castle, pubs, a supermarket and waterside walks around the gorgeous Falls of Dochart.

What customers say

"Fab spot for walkers near Loch Tay, friendly staff & lovely views. Spacious pitches, but some find facilities a bit old. Can be quiet, though some noisy neighbours noted. Lodge facilities a bonus. A few tent pitches can be muddy or sloped."

Liked Clean tidy site, great facilities. Pre-visit communication was excellent

Disliked The midgies! But that’s not the sites fault, and the shop at reception does sell repellant

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked 8 out of 10 for having views like we did, been coming here for over 25 years and will continue to visit Cruachan Farm camping. Showers are a bit dated & could do to be moderenized. But for £23 a night, its got my vote. Looking forward to next visit. 👍👍

Disliked The shower curtain. Tv signal could be better.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Good base for exploring and easy access to the Loch - all enjoyed swimming in Loch Tay. There was a restaurant by the lake too with an activities centre for boating, kayaking but make sure you book these in advance as they were all booked up by the time we got there. Close to small village Killin, with views of waterfalls, pubs and an old water mill. Beautiful views around.

Disliked Check in with a tourer was tricky as had to check in at holiday village next door, which was easy to find and signposted from caravan park. Checked in and had to turn around to get back out - don't reverse the clutch will not like you. Managed to turn in the car park which happened to be empty - if this wasn't available would have to have gone down towards the Loch, down and back up hill. Maybe they could ask you to go into caravan park if you had advanced notice of which pitch you were going to and a short walk to the reception from there. We managed to level up fine with the caravan as we had hardstanding but looking around a lot of the grass pitches didn't seem very level. There are two toilet blocks one up top that has elsan point and laundry, we were sited at bottom of hill and had to carry toilet up to there. There was a drinking water site nearby, waste water was blocked in lower toilet so again had to lug waste water up the hill.

Local attractions

Starting locally, Killin Castle (five minutes' drive) is definitely a landmark to explore. While here, wander down past the pretty waters at the Falls of Dochart (five minutes) and keep an eye out for wildlife. Killin Golf Club (also five minutes) is a well-liked course with nine scenic landscaped holes to try, while just a little further away at Ben Lawers Dam (10 minutes) you can get a close-up view of one of Scotland's highest Munros. After exploring Loch Tay and the local area, it's a short enough drive to Loch Tay (20 minutes), where plenty of watersports and hiking trails are on offer. The village of Aberfoyle (an hour away) is very popular with off-road cyclists who appreciate its miles of well-maintained gravel tracks, and there's also a forest park with Go Ape, a visitor centre and a hide where beady-eyed visitors may spot red squirrels among the trees. For more heritage sights, try Castle Menzies (30 minutes), an imposing 16th-century clan seat, or Stirling Castle (an hour and 10 minutes), one of the most important and impressive historic buildings in Scotland.
