  • Pop-up site half a mile from Spean Bridge in the Highlands and Islands
  • Nevis Range Mountain Resort 10 minutes’ drive; Fort William 20 minutes
  • Coffee and pizza provided; sports on site; shuttle bus to Nevis Range
Heading for the Highlands and Islands? Then you should be pleased to hear about Glen Spean Camping, a pop-up site half a mile east of Spean Bridge. This family-friendly campsite might be simple – facilities include a toilet block, showers, water access and sinks – but the views to the Grey Corries and Aonach Mòr in the Nevis Range are spectacular. Shuttle buses to take you up to all the action in the Nevis Range Mountain Resort (10 minutes’ drive) will be running a couple of minutes’ stroll away from the field. Meanwhile, Fort William and Loch Linnhe are just a 20-minute drive away from the site; check out the West Highland Museum, Ben Nevis and the Ben Nevis Distillery. Back at the site, you can get together with friends old and new to throw axes, shoot arrows and ride Segways across rugged fields from the neighbouring Wild Highland Outdoor Centre. Food is all taken care of too, with the Hebridean Larder serving up coffee and breakfast in the mornings, and woodfired pizzas from a food truck in the evening. Beer and soft drinks will be available from the Glen Spean Brewing Company, right by the field.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Easy to park and find a pitch, served a purpose of somewhere to sleep close to the shuttle bus to the mountain bike world championships. Access to real toilets not just portaloos was a bonus.

Disliked Some people don’t respect others , one female was very loud until 1am. More annoying than the hungry mosquitoes.
