  • Site half a mile from Spean Bridge in the Highlands and Islands
  • Nevis Range Mountain Resort 10 minutes’ drive; Fort William 20 minutes
  • Brewery with a bottle shop and self-serve coffee; food on weekends
Heading for the Highlands and Islands? Then you should be pleased to hear about Glen Spean Camping, a pop-up site with a family atmosphere half a mile east of Spean Bridge. This site might be simple – facilities include toilets, showers, sinks, picnic benches and a common area – but the views to the Grey Corries and Aonach Mòr in the Nevis Range are spectacular. The site is on the road to Skye and Inverness, 10 minutes' drive away from Aonach Mòr and the Nevis Range Mountain Resort. Gorgeous spots like Fort William and Loch Linnhe are just a 20-minute drive away from the site; check out the West Highland Museum, Ben Nevis and the Ben Nevis Distillery. If you don't fancy driving over to Fort William, buses run from nearby Spean Bridge (half a mile away) to the town – how handy. Back on site, there is an on-site brewery with a bottle shop running events on some evenings; it's open on Fridays and weekends only, as well as the occasional Thursday. Self-serve coffee is provided for those who would like a morning or afternoon brew, and there's also food available on weekends from food trucks.

What customers say

Peaceful campsite with awesome mountain views & friendly vibe. Cool 'camera obscura' loo, on-site brewery, and campfires! Basic but clean loos and sinks, best for short stays. Tricky road access and pricey for dogs. Showers coming soon!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Firepits with a nice vibe

Disliked No proper toilets - some boarded up wooden cubicles with a pile of sawdust and no sinks or flushing water - bit steep for £24 a night and an extra £10 for the dog.

From the manager: Hi! We are a simple campsite, and that might not suit every sort of tourist. Our toilets are quite conventional compost toilets, besides the camera obscura toilet which is one of a kind. On a practical note, we do have two sinks and a tap about 15m from the compost toilets, and charge £5 nightly for dogs rather than £10. Showers are pending.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Great location and price, really friendly staff, superb facilities despite it being a "basic" campsite - compost loo, tap, outside sink but also a little kitchen shed with fridge, kettle and air fryer.

Disliked The only downside is outside their control - as someone arriving by train, I had to walk about 1km along the grass verge of the busy main road to and from Spean Bridge.

From the manager: Thanks for the comments Sarah, I'm really glad you enjoyed it here! Also if you come back next year, there should be picnic table exactly as you described.. Do come again! :)
