  • Luxury glamping pods looking out to sea at Glenarm
  • Free entry to Glenarm Castle estate and tea room discount for guests
  • Private bathroom and kitchen for each pod, plus scenic firepit area
Sea views are often high on the wishlist for visitors to Co. Antrim – after all, this is a stretch of coastline so spectacular that it’s been recognised as the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As you may have guessed from the name, sea views come as standard at Ocean View Pods, a glamping site on the edge of the heritage village of Glenarm. Each of the pods has been carefully positioned to make the most of that seaside location, with big windows looking out over the waves and an outdoor space where you can take it all in while stoking your firepit. Looking out to sea is one of those activities that people often can’t get enough of – so it’s good to know you can have a wander around the site to find the viewpoint, from where you can see across to Scotland on a clear day. There’s a covered picnic table here, so bring a drink and snack with you; there are also board games to keep you busy if the clouds roll in. Stroll a bit further and you’ll get to the village of Glenarm, about five minutes’ walk away and with a shop, restaurant and a couple of friendly pubs. It’s also home to Glenarm Castle, and as a lovely extra touch pod guests get free entrance to the castle’s walled garden, woodland walk and heritage centre, plus a discount on treats at the tea room. Back at base, your pod sleeps up to four, with hotel-quality linens provided. Each one also has a private shower room and a mini kitchen, plus handy extras like a Bluetooth speaker and some binoculars to help you spot sea birds.

Local attractions

A stroll around the Glenarm Castle estate (five minutes’ walk) should be first on the list – as well as the gardens and woodlands, there’s also a play area, a dog park and a mini Land Rover driving experience. There’s also a pizza pavilion and a home-made ice cream shop in the castle grounds. Beyond the castle, you can head down to the marina and beach, or pick up the coast path to walk or bike to Carnlough beach in one direction and the Madman’s Window rock formation. A drive along the coast road is a lovely way to take in some more of the scenery as well, perhaps occasionally turning inland to sights like Cranny Falls (10 minutes’ drive) or the waterfalls at National Trust – Gleno (25 minutes). Other top attractions nearby include Cushenden Caves (half an hour) and Carrickfergus Castle (40 minutes), or you can head north to Bushmills, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and the Giant’s Causeway (an hour).
