  • In a rural peaceful area with easy access to shops and local pubs
  • Orchard walks with stunning views of Somerset
  • In a 12-acre orchard; restaurant 200 yards away and pub within a mile
Somerset camping… even the phrase sounds peaceful. Add in an orchard and – well, all is sorted for peaceful Somerset stays. (And spectacular views too, of course.) West Down Orchard Touring and Camping Park is a family-run site set deep in green Somerset countryside, in a 12-acre orchard with those spectacular views. This is the place to settle for rest, relaxation and splendid walks throughout the nearby farmland and countryside lanes; dogs are welcome on site too. Pitches here drain well even in heavy rain, to suit stays in all weathers, and are generously sized with plenty of room around. The park has a large and up-to-date facilities block with separate ladies' and gents' areas and free hot showers, and a launderette with washing machine and tumble dryer. The small on-site shop stocks daily essentials, a restaurant is just down the road and the local pub is a mile away.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Relaxed site, very quiet, nice staff, lovely walking

Disliked Showers. Central one (men's) the heat want adjustable and scalded me. Right hand one just needs a new head and some tlc. Left one worked.

Power optional cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely warm welcome from the site manager, the initial appearance of the site is lovely, well presented entrance and site shop. The toilets are clean and have nice gestures of things you may have forgotten which is was pleasant. The showers are a little difficult to get right, they are either luke warm or scorching hot. My husband said the men’s weren’t so pleasant.

Disliked I did read before I came there were some season pitches , however I didn’t quite appreciate the number of these and I sure some were permanent home. Some of these were really scruffy and let the place down. I get why they have these season pitches, but they should be away from the touring pitches and kept separate. For these reason I wouldn’t return.

Liked Very friendly staff, clean facilities and amazing guests. The orchard was a hit with our daughter. And We really did appreciate the lovely couple behind us with Barney the dog. It felt like a lovely little community here, which they welcomed us into. We will definitely be back to stay here.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely place to stay
Owner has a good sense of humour (if a little twisted - which I like)
Facilities were better than expected, well maintained
Was able to get a good spot no problems
Short walk to a nearby village pub which was quite good with decent food and beer
Nearby garage has an ASDA shop if you need anything
Good central location for local visits
Dog enjoyed strolling round the nearby orchards - plenty of wildlife country smell sniffing to be had
Nice to watch the plentiful bats hunting as the sun was setting

Disliked Not a problem for me personally, but there is distant road noise from the A303 which some might find irritating
