  • Adults-only site half an hour's drive from Bournemouth and the coast
  • In peaceful Dorset countryside 10 minutes' drive from Moors Valley
  • Suited to slow-paced getaways; off-lead dog walks on site
At Dapplewood Caravan Site, an adults-only site in Dorset, less than a mile from the village of Holt and a 10-minute drive from the market town of Wimborne, you can let all those stresses melt away. Dapplewood is a great base if you want to slow things down with a stroll on Holt Heath less than five minutes’ drive from the site, explore Moors Valley, 10 minutes away, or centre yourself with a short drive to the coast. Back on site, you’re in a top spot to unwind. The site keeps distractions to a minimum, so you can be sure of some peace and quiet – take the dog for a walk off-lead in the two acres of ash and oak woodland or relax at the picnic area under the trees, gazing out over the fields next to the site. When you're ready to get food out, venture across the fields to the local gastropub or nab a table at one of the many restaurants within 10 minutes of the site.

Liked We enjoyed our stay very much, Bridgette was super friendly and vert welcoming, she called me before our stay to tell us just choose your pitch then came out to meet us after we arrived. Wifi and electric was good. Lovely little walk with the dogs in their forest which was full of bluebells and look stunning. Will definitely be booking again.

Liked Lovely welcome from Bridgette and a run down on the site and surrounding areas, when we arrived our pitch was marked with a name board. The site itself was lovely, very quite and a great peaceful getaway

Liked Lovely quiet site with little woodland walk for the dog. Close to lots of other walks and attractions but tucked away from the hubbub. Great place to relax and switch off. Will definitely go back!

Liked Nice and quiet location and very friendly owners., both of them took time to see us and make sure everything was ok

Disliked Hard standing was muddy but obviously this was down to the weather.
Top pitches were tight to reverse onto as car was parked opposite.

From the manager: Hi David,

It was lovely to meet you and we are so pleased that you had a lovely rest with is here at Dapplewood.

I did ask the gentleman opposite to park his large car slightly further back as sometimes guests arrive in the dark and don't realise there is a pitch opposite.

What a lovely site, hard standing…

Liked What a lovely site, hard standing pitches, electric, water, chemical waste, no Blue! Ring when you get there, and owner will tell you what pitch your on, then she came and introduced herself, lovely lady. When we went, it was February, and torrential rain, so we didn’t see the full beauty of this small and quaint place, so….we will have to return.
We didn’t look around the area, because of weather, again another reason to go back! WiFi, phone signal and tv signal good.

Loved it here despite the wet weather and will definitely be back.

Liked Small, peaceful campsite with everything we needed for a lovely 3 night stay with our dogs.
Bridgette sent an email to explain that she would soon be down to greet us but also told us what pitches we could choose from which was great as we could get levelled up etc.
Bridgette was such a lovely host and was incredibly informative about the local area, particularly the best dog walking places which we really appreciated.
The small wooded area at the campsite was also great for our dogs to have a quick snuffle around in between the rain.
We found it so relaxing that we stayed for an extra night and will definitely be back. Would highly recommend.

Liked Quiet pitch

Disliked Nothing apart from the fact that the local pub didn’t open until 5.30pm

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Louise,

It was lovely to see you both when I came down to meet and greet you upon arrival, explaining the site facilities and pointing out the best walks in the local area for your dog and making sure you settled in ok.

Later, I responded immediately when you messaged about checking out late the next day after your one night stay with us to go on a long dog walk I said it was absolutely fine to stay as late as you like at no extra charge.

Sadly, we are not in charge of the pub opening hours and our site is spotless. It is however a woodland...in December.

You may not be aware that when, once in a blue moon, a guest leaves an unfathomable review it affects a site's overall rating and just proves you can't please all of the people all of the time!

A lovely site of you have your own facilities in your van.

Liked Quiet and great location. Beautiful site and Bridget and her husband were very helpful.

Disliked No lights at night. Couldn’t find the chemical waste.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Carol,

It was so lovely to meet you both on what was a night of shocking weather! There is an overhead light on the large oak right next to your pitch for late returns from the pub in the dark but we usually ask guests to switch it off once they are safely back in the van for the benefit of anyone on site who likes the pitch dark and a bit of stargazing! Looking forward to seeing you for the bluebells in the woodland in The Spring.

Local attractions

What’s a holiday without some sun, sea and sand? At Dapplewood, at least two of those are within easy reach – Highcliffe, Bournemouth and Sandbanks beaches are each within 40 minutes’ drive of the site, and are top spots for watersports, sailing and visits to the stunning coast. At Dapplewood, you’re well placed for exploration of this part of the country. There are plenty of cycling routes passing close to the site – take your pick and follow it around historic sites, soaking in the scenic Dorset countryside. Let yourself be transported back in time with a trip to the stunning Kingston Lacy, 15 minutes from Dapplewood, where you can poke around the Egyptian artefacts, wander through the Japanese Gardens and imagine what it must feel like to have an IOU from a king. There are loads more stately piles close to the site, including Little Clarendon, Mompesson House, Max Gate and Mottisfont. History enthusiasts who are craving a little more can see the Cerne Abbas Giant hillside carving and Stonehenge, both less than an hour from the site. The shops, theatres, restaurants, museums and galleries of Bournemouth are 30 minutes away – Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and the Oceanarium are must-sees, and the more adventurous might like to try the climbing walls, vertical drop slide and ziplines at the Bournemouth Pier.
