  • Flat camping field close to Swanage town centre and beach in Dorset
  • A 10-minute drive to the Jurassic Coast and Dorset Adventure Park
  • Free adventure playground next door; quiet site with maps at reception
Set in a six-acre field surrounded by high hedges, Swanage Bijou Camping is well away from the nearest road or house. It’s also only a 10-minute walk from Swanage town centre's shops, restaurants and pubs, and a five-minute level walk to the sandy beach. The site backs onto 20 acres of playing fields, with an adventure playground and skateboard park accessible without going near a road, so you can send the kids off for an hour or two worry-free. Pick your own pitch (get together with friends or family) on the camping field, which is flat and manicured. A fleet of wheelbarrows is also on hand to help you move your stuff from car to pitch. It’s also tents-only, so there will be no car radios, no early-morning engine noise and no safety worries about kids and cars in the camping field. In fact, this is a quiet site with no electricity, so you won’t be disturbed by TVs in neighbouring tents either. Simple, spotless facilities include toilets and hot showers, as well as hot water for washing up. Open fires and barbecues are permitted so you can get the wild-camping vibe. Thoughtful extras include electric sockets at reception, which are free to use (and if you want to leave a device to charge, that's also possible for a small additional fee) – you can also blow up air mattresses, freeze ice packs and chill stuff in the communal fridge for no charge. Maps and information on walks and activities are available at Reception, and the owners are usually on hand to advise on sightseeing ideas. One last word: there’s a security patrol at night for your total peace of mind.

What customers say

Great beach/town location, friendly staff. Guests liked picking their own spots, clean facilities, and laid-back vibe. Note: cash only, can get busy, timed showers. Pizza van and air pumps are handy. Ideal for families (especially football fans!). Many want to return.

Primitive grass tent campsite (large)

Liked Location, friendly host, facilities, general vibe.
Pop up gourmet pizza was great on Friday night.

Disliked Busy, not quiet and relaxing.
Probably a little heavy handed with the push for cash and signage over 2 minute showers.

Primitive grass tent campsite (medium)

Liked This was our first time visiting Swanage and we’re glad we chose Bjiou campsite. We love the cash only concept and the facilities on site are great, including hot showers, clean toilets and recycling buckets. The location is fantastic, just a 10 minute walk to the seafront. An added bonus was the pizza van on Saturday night…delicious! We’ll be back for sure.

Disliked The only let down was the cleanliness of the shower curtains and the sink area.

Primitive grass tent campsite (large)

Liked Great site, to negate no electric hookups pumps for airbeds were available for use next to reception. Wheelbarrows made loading and unloading the car really easy. The showers & toilets are basic but what more do you need ! All facilities were clean every time I used them and no annoying queues regardless of time. Really close to the beach which was fantastic and just a short walk.

Disliked Only tiny tiny negative was no loo brushes in the loos ….

Primitive grass tent campsite (medium)

Liked Really friendly staff. Clean and tidy being a little rustic. Location is good for the beach and town both only a short walk.

From the manager: Thank you for the review Liam - your comments are nice and positive but the score suggests mediocrity which I guess could be misleading for some people. We have the best located and level site in Swanage which oozes with love. Glad you enjoyed the experience though!
