The first River Cottage TV shows were filmed at his smallholding near West Bay Holiday Park, where guests are perfectly placed to make the most of the farmers’ markets, restaurants and brewery tours in the pretty neighbouring town of Bridport on Dorset's Jurassic Coast. Don’t forget your bucket and spade: you can walk straight through the gates of the holiday park into West Bay’s scenic harbour and onto the stunning beach which goes on for miles. There’s no shortage of things to do on site either: wallowing about in the indoor pool, which has a separate toddlers’ pool with a slide, as well as a full-sized flume; there's also bike hire, nature trails, eclectic activities for preschoolers to teens in the well-organised kids’ clubs, a great adventure playground with a climbing wall, amusements, and free evening entertainment for the whole family in the Riverside Club. There are good basic amenities on site (including a launderette, shop and off licence, and a cash machine) as well as a bar and café with harbour views if you tire of the washing up.

Liked Nice view and easy location for good walks to the beach

Disliked We were greeted by a guy on the reception for touring. First thing he said your 10 minutes early no hello or greeting told our pitch had electrical issues which were sorted out quickly

Liked Amazing site and well looked after by the managers Dave and Andy who couldn’t have been more helpful, they truly make this such a friendly and appealing site.
Such a lovely spot and easily accessible to the beach and town .

Liked Lovely location, clean and tidy touring site. Very welcoming at the touring reception area. Loads of advice about local area and town and how to get there by bike without using main roads

Liked The large, level pitches, the view, the price, the neighbours! And most of all the warm welcome at the gate by Ray (?) who was friendly, helpful, informative and even arranged for my friend and I to be on pitches that were closer together than our original booking. The proximity of the harbour, beaches and endless walks. Facilities were decent, too.

Disliked Despite adding to comments section at time of booking and sending an email requesting the area of a pitch(as we have stayed several times) we were only offered a pitch far from requested! 42
Liz on reception was very helpful but we were unable to move once arrived at touring entrance.

Start on the doorstep in West Bay itself: you could go fossil hunting underneath the sandstone cliffs, crabbing in the harbour, take a boat tour of the Jurassic Coast, or head out into the big blue yonder on a sea fishing trip; then there’s golf, paragliding, scuba diving, watersports, and excellent walking along the coastal paths… Take a break from feeding yourself up on all the gorgeous local produce to hand feed the birds at Abbotsbury Swannery, where the 600 nesting mute swans make for an impressive sight (and plenty of hungry beaks); there are also award-winning gardens and a kids' farm to explore. The coastal resort of Lyme Regis has been drawing the crowds since time immemorial and is well worth a visit; other historical gems in West Dorset include the Jacobean manor house of Mapperton, set amongst topiary, terraced gardens and rolling hills; Forde Abbey and gardens; a cluster of castles; and the giant chalk man in the hillside at Cerne Abbas. Alternatively, if there are animal addicts in your party, they'll go ape for the 240-plus inhabitants of Monkey World and potty for the penguins and underwater specimens at Weymouth Sea Life Park.
