  • Family-run, family-oriented site a short walk from Watermouth Bay
  • A 10-minute drive to Ilfracombe; 25 minutes to Woolacombe beach
  • On-site shop with maps available; access to the South West Coast Path
Everyone in… it’s time for a beach break on the edge of Exmoor National Park. From Watermouth Valley Camping Park, a five-minute walk will get you to Watermouth Bay, where there’s fabulous rock fishing and spectacular coastal walks. That’s not all, believe it or not. The Victorian town of Ilfracombe is 10 minutes’ drive away and surfing beaches such as Woolacombe beach (25 minutes’ drive) and Croyde beach (35 minutes) are also within driving distance. Further on, characterful Lynton and Lynmouth (half an hour) can be found too. Of course, the site is right on the South West Coast Path around North Devon, so it’s a very wise base for hiking fans (just pick up a map of the local area from the site’s shop). What about Watermouth Valley Camping Park itself? Well, the family-run, dog-friendly site has sea views and a sheltered valley where guests can relax and take in the scenery. There’s a children’s adventure playground for kids to let off steam, a handy on-site shop and a modern, clean amenities block with hot showers and electric points for hair dryers, straighteners and razors. The site gets very popular with families during the school summer holidays (May through to September), but at other times, it’s quiet and peaceful and attracts couples and solo travellers.

What customers say

This well-kept campground offers amazing ocean views, friendly staff, and great amenities like a popular food stand and bar. Sites are usually spacious and the grounds are praised for being clean. Direct access to coastal trails and a nearby beach is a highlight, though the steep beach steps are noted. Families enjoy the playgrounds and games. Some guests mentioned road noise on sites near the road and the distance to amenities from higher sites.

Allocated primitive grass tent or campervan campsite (sea view)

Liked We booked a sea view pitch and it did not disappoint, was stunning waking up every morning to the sea. The different choices of food was great and really nice! Great facilities, clean toilets and showers. Close to all different beaches and places to visit. We will definitely be coming back to stay again.

Disliked Disliked nothing, the only thing we would say is paper towels in the bathrooms for when you’ve washed your hands.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked EVERYTHING!
The facilities were amazing. Everything was thought of, from charging stations to dog washing areas, kids entertainment and fabulous on site food.
The toilet and shower block was spotless and there was plenty of them, we never had to queue.
The dog exercise field is huge and fully and enclosed. Jeff and the woolly brothers (the onsite sheep) where a big hit with our children. The view of the hill tops and bear by harbour from the top of the dog field is amazing to watch the sunset over.
And the nearby beaches are just fantastic.

Disliked We should have stayed longer.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Play area, pitch sizes, showers, kids cabin, food theme nights and proximity to watermouth castle theme park and the sawmill restaurant.

Disliked Could do with more and better handdryers in toilets.
Personal but the kitchen sinks for washing seems really low.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked This is our second stay here this year…Stunning location, friendly staff, excellent bar area and themed food every night. Great children’s play area and games room, toilet/shower blocks are well kept. Difficult to fault this place. We were given the choice of a non electric pitch in the valley or a sea view, we went for sea view, the view was stunning!

Disliked WiFi didn’t quite reach our pitch at the top of the hill, but the view made up for it 😃

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite (sea view, sloping)

Liked Good view, and good area

Disliked Website states a slight slope but the majority of the sea view field is on a big gradient. Enough to wake up at the bottom of the tent.
No where to charge phone when needed without paying a ton.
The staff can sometimes be rude.
The bathrooms were not cleaned often enough and we're left in an unpleasant way.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, although inaccurate.

The field you booked, and as advertised is partially sloped (not all, but some) - please bear in mind the cost of this is £25, and you chose the cheapest option when booking.

The phone charging system has worked really well for our customers. Electricity is expensive and we consider £3 for 24 hours of charging multiple devices to be fair. We are not a large company who can 'shoulder' people charging whenever they want, in whatever socket they can find.

In addition, our bathrooms are cleaned many times a day and spot checked religiously. I do believe you have taken a swipe at our cleaning team to be spiteful.

We wish you good luck in finding an alternative camp site for £25 a night with the facilities provided here.

Local attractions

Time to tick off the North Devon coves and harbours? Start with splendid Combe Martin (five minutes’ drive), a seaside resort with a sheltered cove for peaceful days on the sand. Surfers might want to slide on over to Saunton Sands (half an hour), while those seeking scenic clifftop hikes will get on well with the Valley of Rocks’ (35 minutes) wild goats and sea views. Take off on a fishing trip or a sea safari from Ilfracombe Harbour (10 minutes). Lundy Island is one of the most popular tour spots for such boat trips. There’s a working lifeboat station in the harbour too if that sort of stuff entertains you. Once you’ve checked out the lifeboats, turn back time a little with a trip to Arlington Court (20 minutes), a National Trust site with a Regency house and a carriage museum. Or perhaps all the way back to the time of dinosaurs? Kids are likely to love the life-sized dino models at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (10 minutes) and its zoo and fossil museum.
