  • Back-to-basics riverside pitches under a mile from Honiton town centre
  • A 20-minute drive to the Jurassic Coast and half an hour to Exeter
  • Easily accessed from the junction of the A30 and A35
Need a place where you can get your countryside fix without having to negotiate miles of winding country lanes in your car? Head along to Langford Farm – this rural Devon site is only about half a mile from the junction of the A30 and A35, so it's in a particularly fine spot for both outings and amenities. Walks, bike rides and other outdoor activities are most rewarding around here – the farm sits in a sweet spot between the Blackdown Hills and the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so there’s plenty of pretty scenery around to explore. And some of that scenery can also be admired from the site, which is just on the banks of the Otter river, with views up to Dundon Hill. That countryside is well worthy of many days of exploring, but you might also want to think about throwing a bit of coast and city time into the mix: it’s about a 20-minute drive down to the Jurassic Coast and the seaside towns of Sidmouth and Seaton, or half an hour to the urban attractions of Exeter. Life on site is fairly simple: there’s river access for fishing, plus plenty of space to light barbecues and let the kids and dogs have a bit of a run around. However, please note there aren’t any toilet or shower facilities here. Getting sorted with meal supplies, takeaways or evenings out is supremely simple, though, since the site is less than a mile from shops, pubs and places to eat in the centre of Honiton.

Local attractions

Fancy a relaxing wander through orchards or woodlands accompanied by an alpaca? Then you might want to visit Little Orchard Alpacas (15 minutes’ drive), where you can do just that, as well as take pictures with these inquisitive, friendly animals and feed them their favourite treats. For the knitters among you, the centre also has an alpaca yarn shop. If you’re into animals with wings rather than hooves, Seaton Wetlands nature reserve (20 minutes) is the place for you. Hides and viewing platforms give you plenty of opportunities to spot kingfishers, oystercatchers and dunlins in the marshes. There are also dragonflies and butterflies to spot, plus a pond with otters. Famed as the birthplace of fossil hunter Mary Hanning, Lyme Regis (25 minutes) still yields spiral-shaped ammonites on its Jurassic Coast beach. Those who don’t have the patience to sift through the pebbles can head to one of several fossil shops. You can also take a stroll along the Cobb, an iconic stone pier.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Owner was lovely. Left bottles of water for us. Right by a stream and cows in the field behind was scenic and peaceful not full of other campers. Was able to have a fire and he has chopped wood up ready for you to use! Very chatty and helpful. The morning we were leaving the battery had gone flat on the car and we called him and he came with jump leads within 5 minutes! Lovely and helpful and would definitely go back there again.

Disliked: Just need a sign to say that’s the right field as we thought we had pitched on someone else’s field at first!

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: A brilliant site for those wanting a rustic, natural space. We loved it. So close to the town of Honiton and not far from the city of Exeter, yet feels like the middle of the countryside.
The farmer was so friendly and chatty. He brought us bottled water and a fire pit and bin. There’s a lovey small river to play in and more space than you would ever need for outdoor games and kids running free. Such good value as well as you pay one price for the whole family. You can pitch anywhere you want and enjoy. We loved it. There are no facilities which was fine as we had our own.

Disliked: Nothing
