  • Peaceful tree-lined Devon site with views of Saunton Sands
  • A five-minute drive to Braunton; 10 minutes to Croyde beach
  • Dog-friendly pitches; tea and coffee station on site
Surfs’s up… and in several nearby locations too. A mile and a half from Braunton, The Orchard at Fairlinch is in a sweet spot for those who’d like to hit the waves of north Devon. You’ll be able to spot Saunton Sands from the pitches here – a small hint that this favourite surfing beach is only about five minutes’ drive/40 minutes’ walk away. Croyde and Woolacombe are about 10 minutes’ drive away too, and this stretch of coast is dotted with places offering kit hire and lessons if you need them. Don’t fancy surfing (or maybe not all the time, anyway)? This area has good locations for kayaking, coasteering and paddleboarding too, as well as some lovely walks through nature reserves and along the coast path. You can also bike along the Tarka Trail or head up to Ilfracombe for boat trips to Lundy. This is a peaceful spot where the pitches are set among the trees in an orchard, with plenty of space for a gazebo, awning and barbecue if you wish. The site is pretty simple in style – no noisy entertainments or colourful play areas here – but you’ll have access to essentials in the form of toilets, showers and a washing-up area. There’s also a tea and coffee station for the all-important morning cuppa. Braunton (which you can walk to in half an hour) is well supplied with shops, cafés and places to eat, and has a large supermarket too. Dogs are welcome on site, and there are lots of options nearby for a good walk.

What customers say

Peaceful orchard setting with stunning sea views. Spotless toilets/showers. Spacious bell tents & well-equipped communal kitchen were highlights. Ideal for beach exploring. Minor issues: access track, basic camp beds, occasional noise from scarer.

Bell tent

Liked Quiet site with clean facilities and a beautiful view. Tents set up between trees in the orchard added some privacy.

Disliked The single camp beds in the bell tent were not really suitable for adults. General farm noise was fine, even the dogs barking, but not the man shouting at the dogs at 6.30am!

Bell tent

Liked The site is really close to 4 or 5 incredible beaches. It’s a very clean, tidy and pretty place with stunning views over the fields all the way to the sea.

Toilets and showers were spotless. The tent was also spotless and set up really well with an extension lead, lamp, lots of mats and a nice outdoor seating area. Loads of room to chill out inside and outside your tent as well as in the tea & coffee tent (genius idea!)

Loads of apple trees in the orchard with beautifully sweet apples.

It’s the kind of place you want to tell everyone about, but also keep secret! Fantastic value for money.

Bell tent

Liked We had such a fantastic time camping. Elly’s communication prior to our arrival was brilliant and extremely helpful. The bell tent was very clean, tidy, spacious and welcoming. We had our 2 collies with us who had plenty of floor space to have their beds on. We had a friendly welcome from the farmer on our arrival. The coffee and tea bell tent was awesome, which also housed a small fridge, with a little freezer compartment at the top to allow us to put a few things in and re freeze our ice blocks. It was also a lovely space to chat to other people camping. The toilets and showers were very clean and worked perfectly . The washing up area was great. The Orchard was in a beautiful setting and the views were spectacular, with a footpath next to it where you could go for a nice walk away from the road. Saunton Sands beach was 10 minutes away by car and they allowed dogs all year round on the beach which is one of the reasons why we booked in this location. Putsborough Sands was another beach we went to which was our favourite. There were some restriction's of where dogs could go but it was a massive beach and didn’t have any negative impact on our day.

Disliked A very small thing that we would say was a bit tricky and that was walking down the bank from the tent to our van. There wasn’t really anywhere definite to put your feet so at times it was a bit awkward.
The other thing is that a gas powered crow scarer was going off in the distance, this would start quite early in the morning and stop at dusk, but would be doing its job and going off I imagine every time birds were detected, so a lot. It didn’t bother us personally, however, we have a dog who is petrified of fireworks and therefore was a bit of wreck for most of the time, it hadn’t occurred to me that this would be a problem and I could have brought his medication had I known. This is completely a personal thing and probably wouldn’t affect many, but a nice to know to be prepared.

Bell tent

Liked lovely campsite, in a beautiful location. so spacious with only having 3 bell tents. Having a communal tent is great with cooking facilities. We had a famtastic time.

Disliked fantastic weekend ,but there was a couple of issues. Could have done with soild steps up the bank in front of tent, as my partner fell over a couple of times. Wasn't keen on quad bike been riden through site from farm as our kids and dog were running about

Bell tent

Liked We had an amazing time, thank you for that! The location is great, the scenery is to die for, and there is lots of space for kids to explore and have fun in the orchard. The tent was big enough to accommodate everyone, including our dog. The beds are comfy, the facilities clean and the kitchen tent is a bonus. For us, 10 out of 10! ;)

Bell tent

Liked Loved everything about this campsite. The bell tents are wonderful & spacious, the view over looking the orchard & beyond is beautiful.

The kitchen tent is very well appointed & had everything we needed. We enjoyed using the BBQ’s & munching the apples from the orchard!

The shower & loos were clean, with plenty of hot water for everyone.

The location is perfect, very close to great beaches. From booking to arriving, Elly’s communication was excellent. She went above & beyond for us.

Disliked Nothing

Bell tent

Liked We had a fabulous time at Swell camping, staying in the bell tents. There was ample room for four single beds, plus small tables and lights. It was very comfortable. The kitchen tent was well-stocked and had a fridge, as well as being a nice social area. Showers were hot and facilities good. It is a beautiful and peaceful spot, with incredible views, next to an orchard with both eating and cooking apples. It is just a few minutes drive from the glorious stretch of sand and beach and Saunton, fantastic for bodyboarding and surfing, as well as easy access to Croyde, Woolacombe, Putsborough. Elly was very attentive to all our needs. Would definitely recommend.
