  • Peaceful tree-lined Devon site with views of Saunton Sands
  • A five-minute drive to Braunton; 10 minutes to Croyde beach
  • Dog-friendly pitches; tea and coffee station on site
Surfs’s up… and in several nearby locations too. A mile and a half from Braunton, The Orchard at Fairlinch is in a sweet spot for those who’d like to hit the waves of north Devon. You’ll be able to spot Saunton Sands from the pitches here – a small hint that this favourite surfing beach is only about five minutes’ drive/40 minutes’ walk away. Croyde and Woolacombe are about 10 minutes’ drive away too, and this stretch of coast is dotted with places offering kit hire and lessons if you need them. Don’t fancy surfing (or maybe not all the time, anyway)? This area has good locations for kayaking, coasteering and paddleboarding too, as well as some lovely walks through nature reserves and along the coast path. You can also bike along the Tarka Trail or head up to Ilfracombe for boat trips to Lundy. This is a peaceful spot where the pitches are set among the trees in an orchard, with plenty of space for a gazebo, awning and barbecue if you wish. The site is pretty simple in style – no noisy entertainments or colourful play areas here – but you’ll have access to essentials in the form of toilets, showers and a washing-up area. There’s also a tea and coffee station for the all-important morning cuppa. Braunton (which you can walk to in half an hour) is well supplied with shops, cafés and places to eat, and has a large supermarket too. Dogs are welcome on site, and there are lots of options nearby for a good walk.

What customers say

Swell Camping boasts a peaceful orchard, great sea views & plenty of space for kids. Comfy bell tents, a well-equipped kitchen tent with fridge, and great showers are a hit. Close to Saunton and Croyde beaches. Some feedback on tracks, camp beds, and farm noise. Hosts are lovely!

Liked Peace and tranquility, views, electric hook ups, welcoming hosts. Clean amenities.

Disliked Only 2 toilets and 2 showers. There was only a couple of other tents there during our stay but if the site was busy, one can imagine queues forming!

Liked Sad to be leaving this beautiful quiet place. Very peaceful with only the occasional sheep bleat.Lovely to camp in the orchard where I was met by a dragonfly with copper wings. We saw bats and rabbits too there. Under super starry skies we slept like babies and our tortoise enjoyed himself too. Wonderful beaches, swimming and surf at Saunton and Croyde. The rock pools were like underwater forests and it was fun to explore the magical rock formations when the sea retreated.
Outstanding food at the Williams Arms. We had a beautifully wild coastal walk at capstone hill in Ilfracombe Our camping hosts were kind, friendly and helpful and we look forward to returning soon.

Bell tent

Liked Quiet site with clean facilities and a beautiful view. Tents set up between trees in the orchard added some privacy.

Disliked The single camp beds in the bell tent were not really suitable for adults. General farm noise was fine, even the dogs barking, but not the man shouting at the dogs at 6.30am!

Bell tent

Liked The site is really close to 4 or 5 incredible beaches. It’s a very clean, tidy and pretty place with stunning views over the fields all the way to the sea.

Toilets and showers were spotless. The tent was also spotless and set up really well with an extension lead, lamp, lots of mats and a nice outdoor seating area. Loads of room to chill out inside and outside your tent as well as in the tea & coffee tent (genius idea!)

Loads of apple trees in the orchard with beautifully sweet apples.

It’s the kind of place you want to tell everyone about, but also keep secret! Fantastic value for money.
