A boutique glamping experience overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, The Rock Retreat makes a luxurious Cornish holiday hideaway for everyone. It’s close to some of North Cornwall’s finest beaches (just a five-minute drive to Polzeath) and right next door there’s a resort complex with a swimming pool, health spa, golf course and fitness suite – all free for campsite guests to use. You’ll certainly sample the good life staying here. Each spacious and luxurious safari tent is furnished with a fixed-frame, king-size double bed with mattress; fine cotton bedding, rugs and handmade furniture come as part of the deal. Tents sleep up to five (two additional single beds and a sofa bed can be made up if needed), and are kitted out with full electrics, lights, kettles, fridges, hanging rails, sofas, mirrors and hobs. In short, pretty much everything you need for a top-notch Cornish mini break. The tents also have plenty of stuff that’ll aid and abet a relaxed family holiday – including luxury loos and showers, a barbecue and firepit. There’s a choice of outdoor games and dressing-up boxes to keep the kids entertained, as well as chill-out areas and pamper rooms for some peaceful adult time out. If you’ve got any queries, there’s a friendly and knowledgeable team working on-site 24/7, and they can give you tips on local activities, transport and catering info. There’s also a free car and bike park for exclusive use of guests, but parking is not permitted right by your tent.

Local attractions

The neighbouring leisure centre covers 230 acres of coastal countryside, and here families can have good old-fashioned larks in nature. Dolphins and seals can sometimes be spotted in the bay and you might see puffins too. As well as golfing, fitness and spa facilities, there’s a restaurant and bar so you don’t have to bother about cooking. Polzeath (five minutes’ drive) has a fab beach and an even-better surfing scene – you can hire boards, take lessons and try out paddleboarding here too. Daymer Bay (10 minutes) is another smashing watersports stop, with lots of rock pools for kids to splash around in, while there are dog-friendly beaches at Trevone (40 minutes) and Booby’s Bay (45 minutes) so your pet pooch will have fun in the sea too. Posh little Rock (10 minutes’ drive) has some cute stores and a fantastic butcher and baker, so you can stock up on campsite essentials, or chug across to Padstow (40 minutes) by water taxi to dine on local seafood at waterfront restaurants.
