The Rock Retreat

The neighbouring leisure centre covers 230 acres of coastal countryside, and here families can have good old-fashioned larks in nature. Dolphins and seals can sometimes be spotted in the bay and you might see puffins too. As well as golfing, fitness and spa facilities, there’s a restaurant and bar so you don’t have to bother about cooking. Polzeath (five minutes’ drive) has a fab beach and an even-better surfing scene – you can hire boards, take lessons and try out paddleboarding here too. Daymer Bay (10 minutes) is another smashing watersports stop, with lots of rock pools for kids to splash around in, while there are dog-friendly beaches at Trevone (40 minutes) and Booby’s Bay (45 minutes) so your pet pooch will have fun in the sea too. Posh little Rock (10 minutes’ drive) has some cute stores and a fantastic butcher and baker, so you can stock up on campsite essentials, or chug across to Padstow (40 minutes) by water taxi to dine on local seafood at waterfront restaurants.
