  • Simple but well-maintained Cornwall farm campsite in Poughill
  • A five-minute drive to Bude; 10 minutes to Widemouth Bay
  • Easy access from the Atlantic Highway (A39); lovely views all round
Most pleasant indeed are the surroundings at Mount Pleasant Camping – this small pop-up campsite in the village of Poughill looks out over the stunning north Cornwall coastline in one direction and has distant views of Bodmin Moor in the other… how’s that for a view or two? This farm campsite is mostly surrounded by grassland and arable fields, so mornings and evenings are lovely and peaceful. As a working farm with animals in the fields and due to a nearby repair garage, there may be some smells and noises on occasion during the daytime (and with the stunning surrounding grasslands, the location can also experience some wind). The village location is a handy one for proximity to a pub and there are shops in Bude or Stratton, as well as a small shop and a fish and chips takeaway within 10 minutes' walk of the site. If you're looking out towards the coast you’ve probably got the town of Bude in your sightline – it's about five minutes’ drive away and home to some of the area’s best beaches, especially if you’re into surfing. The farm is also only a little way from the Atlantic Highway (aka the A39), opening up the possibility of outings to all sorts of choice spots nearby including Tintagel, Port Isaac and Bideford. Back at base, you’ll be staying on pleasantly level pitches with access to two clean unisex toilets, a warm shower, washing-up area, drinking water tap, a rubbish/recycling point and an Elsan point. The camping field is fairly open to the elements, so you may well be treated to gorgeous sunsets and stunningly starry night skies while you’re here.

What customers say

This charming, small site boasts stunning, sweeping views of Bude, with some guests loving the vistas from non-electric spots. You'll get a friendly greeting from owner John, and the facilities, including spotless toilets and showers, are immaculate. Easy access and level, marked pitches are great. Walks to Bude and pubs are a must! Some found the limited facilities (1 shower, 2 toilets) tight for longer stays, and a dishwashing sink would be nice. Great value for stopovers!

Liked Fantastic views. Warm welcome from owner on arrival. Well kept site. Footpaths straight from site.
Walk to pub in 20 mins and into Bude in approx an hour. In Bude is a large Sainsbury which I wasn't expecting.
For best views go for non electric.
All round good value for money.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked That it was a small site, and that the owner was really attentive and cared about the site, and his guests. The view was amazing, and it was actually in a good location. Out of the busy town, but close enough to get some shopping done.

Disliked It only had one shower, and two toilets. Just not practical, although clean and maintained well. People were driving on and off the site late. Because of the size it can all be heard.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We’re glad you liked our campsite and location, and thankyou for choosing to stay with us at Mount Pleasant Camping :)

Sorry to hear that you had disturbance, our campsite rules are quiet after 10pm and we try our very best to ensure this is adhered to.

We are a very small pop up site with only 10 pitches and only have room for the facilities we have.
We do hope that our profile advert shows this clearly for everyone to see before booking, but we appreciate your comments and hope this helps future guests when deciding their choice of campsite :)

We are small and minimal but with lovely views and a relaxed setting.
Information and photos of the site can be found on Pitchup and on our own website.

Definitely will recommend it!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Spectacular views, lovely pitch, plently of space, clearly divided, very clean shower and toilets, easy to find and alovely host whp greeted us on arrival. Highly recommend walking down to bude, it was the highlight of our stay! Definitely will come back.

Disliked Not disliked however if we were to stay longer then I’d say the shower would be an issue, water runs for approximately 15 seconds, 5seconds cold, 5 warm and 5 hot… it’s tricky but doable.

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked Easy access to site, large flat grass pitches, great views over the Bude coastline, washing /bathroom facilities very close by. Very small and simple site, but that is reflected in the very reasonable cost. Perfect for stopovers.

Disliked Needs an extra toilet /bathroom.

Local attractions

Bude (five minutes’ drive) is a fabulous place to spend a day or few – as well as some gorgeous beaches in Crooklets and Summerleaze, it's also got an open-air sea pool, a seaside links golf course, a castle and numerous other family-friendly activities. Of course, it’s also known for its surfing, so you might like to bring along a board, hire kit in town or sign up for surf lessons if you need a bit of guidance. Widemouth Bay (10 minutes) is the place to go for consistent surf waves. And if you don’t fancy surfing, perhaps a hike along the local section of the South West Coast Path is more your bag? Elsewhere along the coast, you may like to stop in at the cute fishing village of Port Isaac (45 minutes), see where King Arthur (may have) hung out at Tintagel Castle (40 minutes) or cross into Devon for a day at Westward Ho! (40 minutes). If you’ve got the kids with you, places like the Milky Way Adventure Park (25 minutes) and The Big Sheep (35 minutes) are likely to be popular choices for a day out.
