  • Simple but well-maintained Cornwall farm site in Poughill
  • A five-minute drive from Bude; 10 minutes from Widemouth Bay
  • Easy access from the Atlantic Highway (A39); lovely views all round
Most pleasant indeed are the surroundings at Mount Pleasant Camping – this small pop-up site in the village of Poughill looks out over the stunning north Cornwall coastline in one direction and has distant views of Bodmin Moor in the other… how’s that for a view or two? The farm site is mostly surrounded by grassland and arable fields, so mornings and evenings are lovely and peaceful. As a working farm with animals in the fields and due to a nearby repair garage, there may be some smells and noises on occasion during the daytime (and with the stunning surrounding grasslands, the location can also experience some wind). The village location is a handy one for proximity to a pub, and there are shops in Bude or Stratton, as well as a small shop and a fish and chips takeaway within 10 minutes' walk of the site. If you're looking out towards the coast, you’ve probably got the town of Bude in your sightline – it's about five minutes’ drive away and home to some of the area’s best beaches, especially if you’re into surfing. The farm is also only a little way from the Atlantic Highway (aka the A39), opening up the possibility of outings to all sorts of choice spots nearby, including Tintagel, Port Isaac and Bideford. Back at base, you’ll be staying on pleasantly level pitches with access to two clean unisex toilets, a warm shower, a washing-up area, a drinking water tap, a rubbish/recycling point and an Elsan point. When the weather is good, you may well be treated to gorgeous sunsets, good views and stunningly starry night skies while you’re here.

What customers say

This quiet, scenic spot boasts stunning Bude and coast views. Campers rave about spotless facilities, level sites, and the host's friendly attentiveness. Great for stopovers or exploring locally, with walks to town and pubs. Some noted shower limits, but upgrades are planned.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked I was camping for the first time with my two children (8 and 15). We liked how small the site was as it didn’t feel overwhelming as first time campers. I had seen the excellent reviews and we went for it. Farmer John came over within 5 minutes of us pulling up to go through everything which was great; thank you. Honestly couldn’t have loved it more. The views were stunning!!!

From the manager: Thank you so much Kathleen. It was lovely to have you and your children stay with us, and we’re really pleased your first camping trip was such a success! It’s great to hear that being a small site helped make that first experience a little easier too. Thank you for choosing us after reading our reviews and for now taking the time to leave one yourself, it really does help future guests. Thanks for the photos too, and hopefully this is the first of many camping trips for you all! 😊

Powered grass travel trailer, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Fantastic little campsite with good size pitches. Basic but very clean and well maintained facilities. Friendly and helpful owners. Dog friendly, pub within walking distance that does great food and within a few miles of Bude and the nearest supermarket. Very tranquil and with stunning views.

Disliked Due to the campsites location, its very windy so tents can take a hammering, but you dont get views like that without being exposed to the elements!

From the manager: Thank you so much Lucy for such a lovely review. We’re really pleased you enjoyed your week with us and it’s especially nice to hear in your private message that you rate our little campsite among some of the best you’ve stayed at – we really appreciate that.

Thank you as well for taking the time to share your photos. We always enjoy seeing the campsite through our guests’ eyes.

Our elevated position is definitely a bit of a trade-off at times! Being so open towards the coast means we can certainly feel the Atlantic weather when it decides to blow, which is why we always try to make guests aware of it. On the other hand, that open position is what gives us the outlook we’re lucky enough to enjoy across the countryside and towards the coast, and we take great pleasure sharing it with our guests.

It was a pleasure having you both stay with us and we’d happily welcome you back again. 🙂

Peace, quiet and tranquility. An endless view…

Liked Peace, quiet and tranquility.
An endless view over Bude and surroundings.
Short walks (45 mins) into Bude or to the beach.
Pub 10 mins through a wooded path.
Very clean facilities - toilets, shower and pot wash.
But most of all, the host is a delight. Meets you soon after arrival, explains the layout and any problems, he responds immediately.
There won’t be any problems…it’s perfect 👌🏼

Ryan S. 1 review

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Amazing campsite, so clean and very well looked after, and seems to attract a certain kind of guest (no one was loud or rude or obnoxious, everyone was very polite and and the whole vibe of the camp was exactly what my partner and I were after. Lovely walks to the Bude town and Northcott beach. Loved our stay and will definetly be coming back next year for longer! Special shout out to john who was polite, welcoming and who came straight to see us upon arrival and set the rest of the time away perfectly! Toilet and shower facilities spotless, wash up are spotless, the whole site was spotless from head to toe.

Disliked Disliked the fact we had to leave!

From the manager: Thank you so much Ryan, what an amazing review to receive! It genuinely means a lot to us.

We try really hard to keep the site a relaxed, friendly and well looked-after place where people can simply switch off and enjoy their stay, so reading this was lovely.

It was a pleasure meeting you both and I’m really glad you enjoyed your time here. As for your only dislike… unfortunately we haven’t found a solution to having to go home yet! 😂

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave such a brilliant review. We’d absolutely love to welcome you both back next year, hopefully for that longer stay!

All the best,
John

Local attractions

Bude (five minutes’ drive) is a fabulous place to spend a day or few – as well as some gorgeous beaches in Crooklets and Summerleaze, it's also got an open-air sea pool, a seaside links golf course, a castle and numerous other family-friendly activities. Of course, it’s also known for its surfing, so you might like to bring along a board, hire kit in town or sign up for surf lessons if you need a bit of guidance. Widemouth Bay (10 minutes) is the place to go for consistent surf waves. And if you don’t fancy surfing, perhaps a hike along the local section of the South West Coast Path is more your bag? Elsewhere along the coast, you may like to stop in at the cute fishing village of Port Isaac (45 minutes), see where King Arthur (may have) hung out at Tintagel Castle (40 minutes) or cross into Devon for a day at Westward Ho! (40 minutes). If you’ve got the kids with you, places like the Milky Way Adventure Park (25 minutes) and The Big Sheep (35 minutes) are likely to be popular choices for a day out.
