  • Family site within walking distance of Bude and surfing beaches
  • Around half an hour's walk to a deli, bakery, cafés, pubs and tapas
  • Couples also welcome; seashell craft studio on site
If you're looking for a base to explore north Cornwall and all of its stunning scenery, take a good, long look at Atlantic Camping. Just off the A39, the 26-acre farm site has pitches set among gorgeous planted Cornish palms. Take a 25-minute stroll down past the local bakery to reach the cobblestone wharf along the canal path. There are several restaurants and cafés where you might want to grab a coffee, ice cream or something to eat. From there, it's only another 15 minutes' walk to the beach – where it's high time you ditched those shoes – or 20 to the Bude Sea Swimming Pool, a semi-natural tidal pool on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. With four beaches set within a four-mile radius of the site, there's plenty to do, whether you're keen to hire a surfboard, try some watersports or hike along the South West Coast path directly from Bude. Bude also has a links golf course with views of the coast and countryside, a leisure centre with an indoor pool, wave machine and waterslide and plenty of pubs selling lush Cornish cider. Back on site, while away any downcast days in the Seashell Craft Studio, making mirrors, picture frames or plant pots. For outdoor activities, there's a small play park and a designated pitch for ball games. The site also has a shower block with heated showers, toilets, washing-up facilities and an eco waste disposal point. No need to cram in too many extra clothes either; the on-site laundry facilities accept contactless payments. For grocery shopping and other everyday needs, Atlantic Camping is within walking distance of a 24-hour shop and a short drive away from supermarkets and shops selling hardware and car parts. And if it's more tourist destinations that you're looking for, the site is half an hour's drive from Bocastle, 40 minutes from Tintagel and just over an hour from Padstow.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Location is good for trip to Bude and the pitch size is generous.

Disliked Showers, cold! And not as clean as they could be. No where to dry your hands after using the loo. could do with a bit of a renovation. People brushing their teeth in the washing up sink.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Beautifully kept grounds, palm trees everywhere and great views of the surrounding hills.
The toilets were kept very clean and the facilities were all as advertised.
There were quite a few staff and everyone was friendly.
Easy to book.
Although most pitches were on a slope my campervan's ramps made sure we could be level for sleeping.

Disliked I thought the wall of CCTV monitors that greets you on arrival was little over the top for a simple Cornish camp-site.

Liked Location was good for walking into Bude and for access from the A39. The pitch's were nice and spacious and lined by palm trees. If we stayed again we would ask for a pitch which had separation with trees as they are more private and looked better - I think rows A-D had these. We would definitely stay again as was very convenient for us.

Disliked Not so much a dislike but things to note are the facilities are basic but we didn’t expect luxury toilets and showers. Washing up areas are open to the elements so would not be pleasant in bad weather. For a eco site would have expected more recycling options as only had general waste or glass bins.

Liked Nothing, other than close to a canal walk to Bude

Disliked Disgusting dirty toilets and pot wash facilities, ivy growing in showers and when I complained the owner was obnoxious and blamed his partner who then blamed him
He seemed to spend all his time watering his plants rather than cutting the long grass and cleaning. I'm not even sure he was that switched on to the situation.
I hope Pitch up access sites occasionally to check health and safety standards.
This was poor for mid July and soon families unless they take notice of this will be arriving for school holidays ,I pity them.

Local attractions

The beaches of Bude are rightly famed for their golden sands, clean water and surfing breaks: get along to Summerleaze and Crooklets within Bude for surf, and to the National Trust-managed Sandymouth for a quieter vibe via its steep ravine. The long sands and popular surfing waves of Widemouth Bay are a few miles from Bude, Crackington Haven is within eight miles, and the family-friendly beach of Northcott Mouth is a top spot nearby for rockpooling. In Bude town, spend a morning wandering around the harbour and Bude's buildings – including the oldest in town, Quay Cottage, and the heritage centre now housed in Bude Castle. Then, perhaps tackle the South West Coast Path from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven, and then further south to Boscastle and Tintagel…? Horse riding, cycling, ten-pin bowling, fishing, tennis and golf are all available in the region too.
