It’s not every day you get to pitch up among fruit trees, so grab the chance to do just that at Frittenden Orchard, where off-grid grass pitches are scattered in orchards on a Kent farm near Staplehurst. For even more of a back-to-nature vibe, you can wander the 11-acre woodland wildlife haven around the camping fields, where you might get to see foxes, badgers and deer. The site owners are happy to suggest local walks and sightseeing ideas for you. Free-range eggs are available from their own hens (just think of the breakfast fry-ups…). As this is a simple campsite, there’s no electricity but you will have a wifi connection and ice-pack freezing to keep your food fresh and chilled, as well as charging facilities for your devices, so you can keep in touch with the outside world. You can barbecue meals on grills brought from home, and pick up locally sourced produce from the handy store in Frittenden (five minutes’ drive), but if you’d rather someone else did your cooking while you’re away from home, there’s also a smashing pub in the village serving yummy burgers and local beers.

Liked Very warm welcome from Diane and a beautiful orchard site, very quiet and felt very safe travelling solo.
Although no showers this wasn’t a problem, toilet facilities great and very clean.
I didn’t walk to the pub, or Sissinghurst but you could do both easily. In hindsight wished I had only booked more than one night! Would definitely return. Thank you!

Liked The peace and quiet and how few people there were. Beautiful countryside on the door step with a lovely stroll across the fields to the pub. Friendly welcome with a laid back attitude and freedom to pick your own space.

Disliked It's very basic but we knew that before we arrived and isn't trying to be anything that it's not.

Liked Beautiful Location surrounded by Orchard trees out in a rural location , very friendly host , nice and quiet site with an abundance of room .
We went on a 2 mile bike ride to the local pub .
Definitely worth a visit

There’s more active stuff to do too; kids with energy to burn can wear themselves out on zipwires or mountain-biking trails at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (20 minutes), or on the inflatable course at Bewl Water Aqua Park (25 minutes). Younger children can cuddle the cute creatures at Buttercups Sanctuary For Goats (20 minutes), and any rainy-day issues are taken care of by the indoor pool at The Weald Sports Centre (10 minutes). If you’ve treated the kids to their day out, you deserve some me-time too. How about heading into Royal Tunbridge Wells (40 minutes) to browse indie shops or lunch in the cosy bistros of The Pantiles?
