Hardstanding and grass pitches with electric hook-ups

  • Peaceful pitches 10 minutes’ drive from Deal, in the Kent countryside
  • Sandwich 10 minutes’ drive; Howletts Wild Animal Park 25 minutes
  • On-site café; fishing (additional fee); designated footpaths
Set in the Kent countryside, Cottington Lakes is a peaceful spot that should suit anglers, nature lovers and families. The pitches are a couple of minutes’ walk from the on-site fishing lakes (available for an additional fee with a valid fishing permit), making it easy to head out for an early-morning cast. It’s important to note that access to the lakes themselves is strictly limited to those with a valid fishing permit. However, all guests are welcome to soak in the surrounding scenery on the designated footpaths that run around the outside of the lakes. When you’re ready for a bite to eat or a hot drink, the Cottington Lakes Café is also just a short walk away, serving hot meals, light snacks and refreshments (seasonal opening hours apply). Whether you're after lazy afternoons in nature or quiet evenings under the stars, this is a lovely place to slow down and appreciate the outdoors. The spacious grass pitches are supported by clean and simple on-site facilities designed to be practical rather than luxurious, including a small toilet and shower block. This consists of two women's toilets, one men's toilet with two urinals and a separate accessible toilet. There is one shower in the women’s area and one in the men’s, along with sinks inside the bathrooms and an additional wash basin outside. There’s a small shop on site covering everyday essentials, and the site is also close to historic Deal and the medieval Cinque Port of Sandwich (both around 10 minutes’ drive) if you need bigger shops or fancy eating out in pubs and restaurants.

North field powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Beautiful area, with very friendly people. All the services worked well.

Disliked I booked a "North field electric hardstanding and grass pitch", but that just meant mud. The road is hardstanding, but not the pitch.

Not the campground's fault, but mobile services are poor.

North field powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Stayed there last week, beautiful place, would be lovely in the summer. Hardstanding pitches are not hardstanding, very muddy which wasn’t their fault but if they had been hardstanding, it wouldn’t have been that bad. Staff were absolutely brilliant, very friendly and helpful.

North field powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Clean bathrooms. Peaceful

Disliked Arrived on a sunday and told by man in cafe someone would be with us shortly but waited ages so parked ourselves. Sloping pitch. No phone signal. Not being able to walk or look at lakes that were behind gates/ fences and being told not to go beyond gates. If you go for fishing i guess it would be a good site other than that not much to it. Lots of potholes and pitches not very good, supposed to be hard standing but very muddy. Booked for 3 nights but as no phone signal or Internet wanted to leave after 1 night. Asked for refund and was told they would ask the management who would call us but never did. Ended up staying 2 nights but left after that and not staying the 3rd night.

North field powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Security of site is very safe & secure. Coded fate then a coded barrier.
Facilities are basic but there enough for what we wanted which was an overnight stay as we were travelling on a ferry the next morning which by the way, the site is super close to Dover ferry port. 15 minutes drive.
The town of Deal which is 5 minute drive is beautiful for food, shopping etc & was all decorated up for Xmas.
Staff at this site are super friendly & welcoming. Excellent value for money.

Disliked Nothing, it was ideal & perfect for what we wanted.

North field powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked The lakes, and the fields seem large and open, with plenty of space .
Staff were very polite and helpful.
Very good cafe on site, and reasonably priced. Conveniently suited close to channel tunnel and dover if going abroad, good one night stop over.

Disliked Winter pitches seem to be on a semi hardstanding area of the car park, with very limited space. Very wet outside the van.Facilities on the site a little basic, and 1 male and 2 ladies toilets plus 1 shower in each seems a bit small for the size of the site. Some very deep puddles.

Local attractions

For a day at the seaside, head to Deal (10 minutes’ drive), but be aware that there will be no castle building here, since the beach is a seemingly infinite expanse of pebbles. As the clock strikes the hour, turn your gaze to the Timeball Tower to see the ball drop, as it used to do back in the 19th century. Get lost among the medieval streets and alleyways of Sandwich (10 minutes), then head to the River Stour, the banks of which are often the site of lively festivals and re-enactments. From there, you can walk to the sandy beach at Sandwich Bay, via trails and dunes where you might spot stoats, partridges and warblers. Wingham Wildlife Park (15 minutes) has big cats (lions and tigers) as well as smaller animals like meerkats and penguins, plus a Dinosaur Zoo with replicas of prehistoric beasts. Howletts Wild Animal Park (25 minutes) also has an Animals of the Ice Age section, and it runs special encounters with lemurs, anteaters and baboons.
