  • Quiet, rural site 25 minutes’ drive from Ashford in Kent
  • The Big Cat Sanctuary 10 minutes’ drive and Leeds Castle 15 minutes
  • A wildlife haven with wildflowers and access to multiple footpaths
Heading for Dover ferries and adventures in Europe? Sticking around to explore Kent? Either way, Far and Away, just outside Headcorn village and 25 minutes’ drive from Ashford, offers a quiet and rural space to spend the night. This pop-up site sits in a field sheltered by mature trees, with easy access to multiple public footpaths through untamed Kent countryside – by the way, the site gets daily visits from red kites and eagles, and on still nights you can hear lions roaring at The Big Cat Sanctuary across the fields. Should you wish to make a trip up to London, there are super-easy train links from Headcorn Station to Charing Cross, with the journey taking about an hour and 20 minutes. Sticking closer to home base, you can go sightseeing in pretty Kent villages like Biddenden (10 minutes’ drive), Tenterden and Cranbrook (both 20 minutes), or dent your bank account with a shopping spree at the Designer Outlet Ashford (half an hour). Facilities-wise, the site has a gas shower and a composting toilet (with instructions on how to use it), but there is no electricity, so do make sure your packing list includes torches and batteries. The main attraction is being in the outdoors, so there are no set activities, leaving you free to spend your time as you like (perhaps with an evening drink by a firepit or trying some stargazing).

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely, peaceful campsite — would definitely stay again!

I really enjoyed my stay here and was genuinely impressed with the site. The location is lovely and it has a really peaceful, relaxed atmosphere, which is exactly what I was looking for.

One of the things I particularly appreciated was the locked entrance gate. It gave the site an extra sense of security and made me feel much more comfortable, especially at night.

The owners were absolutely lovely — friendly, welcoming and approachable, which really added to the overall experience. It’s clear that they take pride in the site and want people to enjoy their stay.

Overall, I loved the peace and quiet, friendly atmosphere, security and cleanliness of the site. It felt safe, relaxed and well looked after, and we would happily come back again. Definitely a campsite I'd recommend to anyone looking for a quieter, more laid-back camping experience.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked I'm currently staying at this campsite just outside Headcorn, and I absolutely love it. The site is huge, yet it has a wonderfully warm and friendly atmosphere. I really wish there were more campsites like this.

The owners are a lovely couple who are very environmentally conscious, which makes this place feel even more special. I felt welcome from the moment I arrived.

Just be aware that the facilities are simple – there's a compost toilet and a small shower – but if you're happy with that, it's a fantastic place to stay.

If I'm ever back in the area, I'll definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked I adore this campsite- just simple and beautiful with lots of space. Lovely hosts with super clear communication and so accommodating when I was running quite late. Facilities have been extended since I last visited and having the showers was fab.

Disliked only downside is having to pay balance in cash- just a bit of a faff but not a problem.

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked Very good low impact site, working hard on sustainability and helping the planet. Quiet, friendly site, basic but better for it.

Disliked Nothing really, difficult to find in the dark but arriving at a campsite in the dark isn’t good anyway.
