  • Lakeside site on the edge of the South Downs National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from central Winchester; 1.5 miles from Marwell Zoo
  • Fishing, archery, quad biking and other adventure sports
Zebras, tigers and bokibokies await in these handsome Hampshire surrounds – taking the kids to see Marwell Zoo's multitude of beasts is likely to make for some very happy hols indeed. Marwell Resort is within walking distance of this much-loved menagerie and is home to plenty of adventurous action in its own right – head here if you like the sound of oodles of outdoor activities in a pretty lakeside setting. The team at Marwell Resort have been instructing for more than 25 years, so they're well qualified to help you try out sports like archery, quad biking and clay pigeon shooting. Please note that many of these activities have a minimum age restriction applied- please check directly with the site. The site lake has a total of nine swims available for anglers (mega-sized carp can be found in its waters, including whoppers weighing up to 45 pounds). Surrounded as it is by trees, it also looks pretty fine (especially at sundown) and is a popular spot with local wildlife. Marwell Resort has strong all-round facilities, including toilets, showers and wifi. There's also an on-site bistro restaurant that serves up nourishing meals seven days a week. You can set up a barbecue and cook your own grub, too (stock up on fresh meat and veg 15 minutes' drive away at Westlands Farm Shop).

Liked Good activities. Plenty of space.
Nice restaurant helpful staff

Disliked Having to pay the high price of soft play and crazy golf. Feel if you are staying on site, this should be discounted

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review! We're so glad you enjoyed the activities, open space, and had a great experience at our restaurant with our helpful team.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the pricing of the soft play and crazy golf. We do our best to keep activities affordable while maintaining and improving the facilities, but we completely understand your point. Offering a discount for guests staying on site is a great suggestion, and we'll certainly take that on board as we review our pricing and packages.

Thanks again for your input—we hope to welcome you back in the future!

Liked Level open pitches, warm welcome, lovely outdoor bar and great food in the restaurant and a well stocked shop. We had a great stay despite the rain.

Disliked Awful showers, barely a trickle of hot water from them.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! We're really pleased you enjoyed the level pitches, warm welcome, and had a great time at the outdoor bar, restaurant, and shop—despite the rainy weather!

We're sorry to hear about the issue with the showers. The water pressure problem is due to an external issue with Southern Water, and we've already alerted them to the problem. We're doing everything we can from our side and will continue to follow up until it's fully resolved.

We truly appreciate your understanding and hope to welcome you back again soon—hopefully with better weather and better water pressure!

Liked Really lovely site. Our second stay - last year we stayed in December to visit the Christmas Market at Winchester. Although everything was closed down for the winter, we decided to bring our grandchildren back in the summer as we could see there was a lot to do there to keep them entertained.
The weather was not that kind to us but we still had fun playing crazy golf and the pizzas went down a treat with the kids. Lovely grass area for kids to play football and there is the fishing too.
Our son, daughter in law and the grandkids stayed in a safari tent and we stayed close to them in our touring caravan, which worked really well.
Would throughly recommend 👍🏻

Disliked Feel crazy golf was quite expensive for what it was, if it had been a little cheaper we would have had another game the following day. But apart from that no complaints at all

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We liked the position of our tents with an open field behind for the kids to play and it was nice and flat. They kept the toilets and wash areas nice and clean. Kids enjoyed the park, the adventure golf and crazy golf. The older children loved the quad bikes too!

Disliked There was no time limit on the soft play. As soon as it rained everyone went there and it was 1 in 1 out so for anyone else who wanted to escape the weather you had to just keep coming back in hopes you could get in. There needs to be away to book a time slot or something to make it fair for everyone. Plus the night where there’s music playing the tables in the cafe/ restaurant are reserved all day, left lots of empty unable to be used before the performance.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely and detailed review! We're so pleased to hear you enjoyed the pitch location, the open space for the kids to play, and our clean facilities. It’s great to know the little ones enjoyed the park and golf, and the older ones had fun on the quad bikes too—that’s exactly what we love to hear!

We really appreciate your feedback regarding the soft play. You're absolutely right—when the rain hits, it becomes very popular, and we understand how frustrating it can be to miss out. We're currently reviewing how we manage access during peak times, and introducing time slots or a booking system is a great suggestion that we’ll definitely consider.

We also hear your point about the reserved tables on music nights. We’ll look into how we can better balance pre-bookings while still allowing more guests to enjoy the space throughout the day.

Thanks again for your constructive feedback and for choosing to stay with us—we hope to welcome you back soon!

Liked The Reception staff are friendly and helpful. The shop was a great bonus and the bar/restaurant reasonably priced. Plenty of space for children to play football or fish.

Disliked The drive in has huge potholes which caused an issue with our caravan. The showers are terrible! Very small and hardly any hot water or pressure. Not regularly cleaned either. The activities like clay pigeon shooting were not on. Overheard there are some issues at a top level and site is being left to go to ruin! Such a shame.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're really pleased to hear you found our reception team friendly and helpful, and that you enjoyed the shop, bar/restaurant, and the open space for children to play and fish.

We’re very sorry to hear about the issues you experienced. The condition of the entrance road is something we're aware of, and we’re already in discussions to have it repaired. Regarding the showers, we understand how frustrating it can be—we’re currently working with Southern Water to resolve ongoing pressure and hot water issues. In the meantime, we’re also reviewing our cleaning schedules to ensure facilities are well maintained at all times.

Regarding the activities, clay pigeon shooting was paused due to concerns about excessive noise and not wanting to disturb the many dogs we have on site. However, archery, axe throwing, and quad biking have all been running and are available for guests to enjoy.

As for your comment about the site being left to go to ruin—we want to assure you this is absolutely not the case. The owner is on site every day, working extremely hard alongside the team to improve and maintain the resort. There have been some challenges, but the commitment to making this a great place for guests remains stronger than ever.

Thank you again for your feedback—it’s really important to us, and we hope you’ll consider returning in the future to see the progress firsthand.

Clean and friendly site.

Disliked The British summer weather (rain), but won’t hold them responsible for that.🤣

Local attractions

Marwell Zoo (five minutes' drive) has over 140 different species to admire – you can also leave the car back at base and stroll over (about 20 minutes) for a pedestrian safari. Paultons Park (25 minutes' drive) is another perennial fave for family-oriented days out – here you can meet Peppa Pig, crash down log flumes or opt for wanders through a dinosaur-filled forest. The South Downs National Park has some truly splendid hiking trails, including the 100-mile-long South Downs Way (the trail starts 15 minutes down the road in Winchester). Mountain bikers also have plenty to choose from around these parts – an exhilarating bike track through the woods is on hand in the nearby village of Bishopstoke (10 minutes). The gorgeous New Forest National Park (25 minutes) is also within easy reach, and one of the best ways to get around is by open-top tour bus. There are three routes to choose from – it all comes down to whether you prefer vistas of heather-covered heathland or coastal explores. Speaking of the sea, beaches like Lepe and Highcliffe Castle (both 40 minutes) are very much worth the journey (make sure to pack jelly shoes and a towel if at all tempted).
