  • Dog-friendly site surrounded by countryside five miles from Winchester
  • A 15-minute drive to Mottisfont and 35 minutes from Stonehenge
  • Playground, games field and dog exercise area; firepit hire, logs sold
This is a peaceful campsite that welcomes families and dogs to its level and well-kept pitches, which are sheltered by mature trees and hedgerows. With facilities including hot showers and flushing toilets – plus a playground, games field, dog exercise field and footpath to a local country park – Folly Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a tiptop place to stay in the gorgeous Hampshire countryside. How to unwind here? Well, there are plenty of spots around the site to let your hair down (thanks to its peaceful and level grassy pitches, play areas, wifi, free showers and walks in the surrounding woodlands) but you’ll have your choice of many a day out from here too. Perhaps a venture into the South Downs National Park (10 minutes’ drive)? Into the vibrant city of Winchester (15 minutes) for its historic sites, such as the medieval cathedral, the ruins of Wolvesey Castle, the working 18th-century corn mill, Jane Austen’s house or the castle’s medieval round table, once sat at by King Arthur? From Winchester, there’s a short stroll along the water meadows of the river Itchen down to England’s oldest medieval almshouse and The Hospital of St Cross or the 25-minute ascent to St Catherine’s Hill for views of the city, a dramatic chalk hill and an Iron Age hillfort. As for ventures from the site, you might want to set your next target as one of three local pubs serving home-cooked food in the villages of Sparsholt, Littleton or Crawley (this one’s 25 minutes’ walk away).

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Very quiet site, pitches well maintained and level, seperate area for the kids to play ball games and wardens came round to pitch every day to check in to make sure all was ok, specific way emailed to set up pitch normally a car between tents which means tents not right next to each other - would stay again

Disliked: This is me being picky but could be improved by: a shelf in the shower as no where to put things, a notice on entry and exit stating to stop close to bollard (closer than you think) - I had to explain to a few people I passed as if too far away, bollard would go down and straight up again. More white markings on the posts marking the pitches as the small amount of tape is easily missed as I noted with a neighbour a few pitches down. Only other thing is it would have been better to receive the information email 24h+ rather that 3 hours before arrival. These are all VERY little things and would not put me off coming again

Powered grass campervan campsite

Liked: Good facilities showers and toilets mid level.

Disliked: Was half term week lots of families and therefore a bit noisy.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. New facilities are currently being built. We are a family orientated campsite and it was a busy half term week. We welcome solo campers like yourself, and couples, and advise those looking for a quieter atmosphere to book during term time, particularly midweek when the campsite is extremely peaceful.

Powered grass RV campsite

Liked: Good access to the road network. Well cared for, clean and tidy.

Disliked: Quite exposed, especially in poor weather. No choice of pitch (allocated to you after booking). No visible staff on site. Very noisy, especially if your pitch is near the access roadway that serves all the camping fields. Long walk to the facilities. Small pitches and tightly packed in.

Would I return: Unfortunately not. It wasn’t relaxing at all, mainly due to constant noise of people, dogs and vehicles, way into the night. There wasn’t a moment of calm, from when I arrived mid afternoon, until I left. 10pm and the kids are still running around screaming, the chap next door has spent the last half hour hammering in his windbreak and the access road is like the m25. 11pm and it’s all still going on…Some won’t mind this I guess, but it’s not for me.

From the manager: Thank you for your unnecessarily harsh review. We're pleased you found the site well cared for, clean and tidy. Four staff were working around the clock to ensure you found it that way. We were also walking around the site several times a day until after midnight checking everyone was happy and quieting down any noisy campers. As a solo camper it might be best not to book a one night stay during a busy half term week on a campsite that welcomes families, but you would have been welcome to request a pitch away from the entrance, which is a tiny track by the way and nothing like the M25.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: It is a clean and well looked after site. Staff friendly and helpful.

Disliked: The site wifi did not work at all so lucky we had 4g with an ok signal. The toilets and showers are new, clean but poorly designed. For the same money could book a camping and caravaning site with better designed facilities.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We're pleased you found the site and facilities clean and well looked after and the staff friendly and helpful. The site has WiFi and the passwords are included in your welcome email. Being in a rural setting the internet speed isn't as fast as towns and cities, particularly during a busy half term when lots of customers are using it. I'm not sure what you disliked about the design of the toilets and showers as you haven't explained and this hasn't come up before, but based on all your positive comments your low rating seems a little unfair.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Organised pitches and friendly. Mainly clean Nice dog field and and a couple of games for everyone to use

Disliked: Not enough facilities. No where to put stuff in showers and too small. So people were using washing up sinks to clean their teeth. Very unhygienic

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we're pleased you found us friendly and organised, and that you enjoyed the dog field and games field. There were three facility blocks open during your stay, details are included in your welcome email. It sounds like you may have used the overflow block, which does have a couple of smaller showers but there are larger showers in the main blocks and the overflow block is due to be refurbished over the winter. There were plenty of basins available so I'm not sure why anyone was cleaning their teeth in the washing up sinks.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Although a busy campsite with lots of pitches, it was well laid out and everyone had plenty of space so didn’t feel over crowded.
Toilets and showers clean.

Disliked: We were next to the road so a little noisy during the night as they driver quite fast but nothing some ear plugs didn’t fix!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review. We're pleased you found the facilities clean and felt the campsite was well laid out with plenty of space despite it being a busy weekend. The field you camped in is usually used for recreation as it is a little closer to the road than our main camping fields but there was such high demand this weekend we had to open it to campers. We're pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Local attractions

Get keyed up on the local history… with hillforts, National Trust properties and historic steam railways around, there are many jaunts to take you way back. Closest to the site, there's Danebury Iron Age Hillfort (10 minutes’ drive), Mottisfont’s (15 minutes) historical priory, garden and country estate (15 minutes) or Winchester’s (15 minutes) cathedral, castle, markets and fairs. Perhaps the most iconic of the lot, Stonehenge (35 minutes) is a short trip away. Mid Hants Railway 'Watercress Line' (25 minutes) will take you on a ride along a 19th-century heritage steam train line, while the National Motor Museum (45 minutes) and the maritime museum at Buckler's Hard (55 minutes) are full to the brim with old artefacts. Once you’re done with country house tours – perhaps at Broadlands House (35 minutes) or the National Trust’s Georgian Hinton Ampner (25 minutes) – a festival might bring you firmly to the present again. The Boomtown Fair venue (20 minutes) and Carfest South venue (25 minutes) are both close by. But, how to finish off your stay? Maybe the 72-hectare arboretum at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens (20 minutes), the birds of prey experiences at the Hawk Conservancy Trust (25 minutes), Marwell Zoo (half an hour), Salisbury Cathedral (half an hour) or the kid-friendly Paultons Park, Home of Peppa Pig World (half an hour)?
