  • Dog-friendly site surrounded by countryside five miles from Winchester
  • A 15-minute drive to Mottisfont and 35 minutes from Stonehenge
  • Playground, games field and dog exercise area; firepit hire, logs sold
This is a peaceful campsite that welcomes families and dogs to its level and well-kept pitches, which are sheltered by mature trees and hedgerows. With facilities including hot showers and flushing toilets – plus a playground, games field, dog exercise field and footpath to a local country park – Folly Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a tiptop place to stay in the gorgeous Hampshire countryside. How to unwind here? Well, there are plenty of spots around the site to let your hair down (thanks to its peaceful and level grassy pitches, play areas, wifi, free showers and walks in the surrounding woodlands) but you’ll have your choice of many a day out from here too. Perhaps a venture into the South Downs National Park (10 minutes’ drive)? Into the vibrant city of Winchester (15 minutes) for its historic sites, such as the medieval cathedral, the ruins of Wolvesey Castle, the working 18th-century corn mill, Jane Austen’s house or the castle’s medieval round table, once sat at by King Arthur? From Winchester, there’s a short stroll along the water meadows of the river Itchen down to England’s oldest medieval almshouse and The Hospital of St Cross or the 25-minute ascent to St Catherine’s Hill for views of the city, a dramatic chalk hill and an Iron Age hillfort. As for ventures from the site, you might want to set your next target as one of three local pubs serving home-cooked food in the villages of Sparsholt, Littleton or Crawley (this one’s 25 minutes’ walk away).

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked Very clean facilities and friendly management. I think they put us in an ‘adults only’ area as there were no children in our area. (Which we appreciated as it was quieter). Really well thought out site with dedicated children’s play area. Pub a mile away, easy walk with dog.

Disliked Would have liked a small shop on site but just our preference.

Powered grass campervan site

Liked Friendly hosts, spacious pitches, good toilet and shower facilities, nice location.

Disliked While we were there everyone seemed to either fire up a BBQ or start a fire which caused lots of smoke to drift across the field. We moved inside the campervan because the smell was very powerful.

Liked Easy to enter, as the electronic system had our registration plate in the system. Lots of room to spread out and excellent shower and toilet facilities.

Disliked A little remote with no pub in walking distance.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review and photos. We're pleased you found our secure entry system easy to access and enjoyed the spacious pitches and new facility blocks.

The Fox pub in Crawley village serves excellent food and is only a 20 minute walk from the campsite, details are included in your welcome email. We would be happy to point you in the right direction during your next stay and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Fire pits allowed, friendly staff, playground on site, price, distance to Winchester. Bathrooms clean and never ran out of oiler roll. Showers good. Good access (by car) to forest walks

Disliked Lack of space, pitches too small and felt penned in like animals, no space for children to run around in the middle of the field. It was just a strip of grass . Logs and fire pit expensive compared to standard market for such things and the logs were covered in sap that was almost impossible to wash off your hands and had to be picked off. Too far to placed of interest for children to walk from campsite. Had to take the car

From the manager: Thank you for your photos and positive feedback about our friendly staff, value for money, location for visiting Winchester and accessing National Trust and forest walks. We're pleased you enjoyed the brand new shower block and the fire pit option and on-site playground were appreciated.

The first weekend of the school holidays is one of the busiest weekends of the season, our pitches are a standard size to ensure comfort an safety, but on a busy weekend when the campsite is full we understand it might feel a little more compact, although this also creates a very friendly atmosphere.

As well as the campsite playground we provide a large play field with football and badminton nets and enough room for a game of rounders to ensure there is plenty of space for children to run around. There is also a walk directly from the campsite to West Wood and Farley Mount Country Park which is practically all off road and very suitable for families.

The fire pits are very popular at £15 per stay, and we think you'd be hard pushed to get a large bag of logs with seasoned hard wood, natural firelighters, and a small amount of soft wood / kindling to get the fire going for less than we charge, but we're sorry to hear your soft wood contained some sap.

We hope to welcome you again in the future, and would recommend midweek when the campsite is quieter and more spacious, offering a different experience.

Liked Easy and straight forward to book. Great communication and help when needed. Easy to check in and check out as it’s all automatic. No waiting around. Good touring caravan facilities with easy access to water etc.

Disliked Too many pitches close together with not a lot of space. Noisy due to the amount of people there.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad you found the booking process smooth, appreciated the helpful communication, and found check-in and check-out hassle-free. It's also great to know the facilities worked well for you.

The first weekend of the school holidays is one of the busiest weekends of the season, and being a family orientated campsite, there were lots of happy, excited children enjoying the beginning of the school holidays. Our pitches are a standard size to ensure comfort an safety, but on a busy weekend when the campsite is full we understand it might feel a little more compact, although this also creates a very friendly atmosphere.

We do our best to maintain a happy environment for everyone, providing an adventure playground as well as a separate play field with football nets and badminton to keep the children entertained, and considerately allocating pitches to place guests in the area we feel they will have the best experience. We hope to welcome you again in the future, and would recommend midweek when the campsite is quieter and more spacious, offering a different experience.

Local attractions

Get keyed up on the local history… with hillforts, National Trust properties and historic steam railways around, there are many jaunts to take you way back. Closest to the site, there's Danebury Iron Age Hillfort (10 minutes’ drive), Mottisfont’s (15 minutes) historical priory, garden and country estate (15 minutes) or Winchester’s (15 minutes) cathedral, castle, markets and fairs. Perhaps the most iconic of the lot, Stonehenge (35 minutes) is a short trip away. Mid Hants Railway 'Watercress Line' (25 minutes) will take you on a ride along a 19th-century heritage steam train line, while the National Motor Museum (45 minutes) and the maritime museum at Buckler's Hard (55 minutes) are full to the brim with old artefacts. Once you’re done with country house tours – perhaps at Broadlands House (35 minutes) or the National Trust’s Georgian Hinton Ampner (25 minutes) – a festival might bring you firmly to the present again. The Boomtown Fair venue (20 minutes) and Carfest South venue (25 minutes) are both close by. But, how to finish off your stay? Maybe the 72-hectare arboretum at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens (20 minutes), the birds of prey experiences at the Hawk Conservancy Trust (25 minutes), Marwell Zoo (half an hour), Salisbury Cathedral (half an hour) or the kid-friendly Paultons Park, Home of Peppa Pig World (half an hour)?
