Local attractions

You can start your stay by exploring the spectacular ruins of the late-medieval Netley Abbey, half an hour’s walk from Bell Tent Glamping, but if you’re up for a little driving there’s much more than that to see in the surrounding areas. Appetite for historical buildings and stately piles now whetted by Netley Abbey? Make your way to Mottisfont and Hinton Ampner (40 minutes’ drive from the site) to poke around the stunning houses and gardens, or let the vaulted ceilings of Winchester Cathedral (30 minutes away) awe you into silence. The site is within easy reach of Southampton and Portsmouth but for something different, a trip out to the Isle of Wight is highly recommended. There are plenty of scenic cliffside trails and sandy beaches; for absolute must-sees, head to Victoria and Albert’s Osborne House, as well as Alum Bay and Culver Down. There’s loads nearby for kids too: bring them to explore the forest canopy at Go Ape, visit Paultons Park for Peppa Pig World and adrenaline-spiking rides, or get up close to the exotic animals at Marwell Zoo, all within half an hour.
