  • Riverside camping next to Coniston Water in the Lake District
  • A 20-minute drive to Windermere; 15 minutes to Ulverston
  • Spacious pick-your-own grass pitches with mountain and fellside views
Water Yeat Campsite is a pop-up camping field in the Lake District, and is something close to nirvana for water lovers. The Crake river runs through the site and you can paddleboard, canoe or kayak to Coniston Water in less than five minutes. Allan Tarn, just by the site, is a smashing spot for both watersports and nature watching. Swimmers can also take a dip in the river and the gentle slope on the banks makes it great – and safe – for kids to splash around in the water. Please note, however, that they must be supervised at all times. Access to the camping field from the road is easy, with a short drive across a field leading to the parking area. As cars are not allowed on the camping field, it’s safe for children and dogs. The spacious pick-your-own pitches all have an area for barbecues, and you'll have access to portable toilets close by. Local walks from the campsite up to Beacon Tarn (45 minutes) are easy for young kids, and for the more adventurous, The Old Man of Coniston and Wetherlam (you can see them both from the site, by the way) are around a 15-minute drive away. The long-distance Cumbria Way begins in Ulverston (15 minutes) and the whole area is popular with cyclists for its challenging bike routes. If you prefer to explore the Lake District National Park by car, Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere are all less than 45 minutes away, and you can be in a pub serving food and real ale in less than 10 minutes’ drive from the site.

This campsite is praised for its stunning river access to Coniston Water, ideal for water sports. Visitors love the friendly owners, clean portaloos, and honesty shop. Pitches are spacious. Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The beautiful scenery
Being able to launch our paddleboard so easily from the campsite
How quiet the site was at night despite being busy
How each tent has its own marked out pitch
How friendly Farmer Tom and other staff members were
The honesty shop

Disliked The chemical toilets got quite full on the buddy night we were there. They were clean though and always had plenty of loo roll and alcohol gel for hands.

Liked lovely pop up camp site perfect for family's, couples and friends. amazing site if you paddleboard or kayak the bottom of the camping field takes you straight onto the bottom of lake coniston. Nice speed pitches even when busy there is plenty of spots to pitch. lovely little honesty shop and farmer and family are lovely too. stayed 3 times won't be our last. brilliant spot to stay and close drive to so many other places for a day trip!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Favourite thing was the access to the lake that wasn’t accessible by everyone else in the area. Size of pitch, fantastic location, campsite had plenty of people on it but didn’t feel cramped or noisy. Check in was super easy, tuck shop on site. Loos were cleaned, still a porter loo though so take that with a pinch of salt. No wifi but dependant on your service provider there is decent signal and mobile data

Disliked A little pricey considering there’s no running water on site (bottles can be bought in the tuck shop) There are loos that flush though but can’t wash hands properly.

Liked Site clean & tidy, on-site toilets immaculate, accessible parking. Can choose your own pitch, river nearby within walking distance & 5 minutes up the river can get to coinston water. Have a little honesty shop on site which had a good range of items to buy. Fire wood can buy on site, overall a good camping site that is accessible & easy to locate. Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Exactly as advertised.
Perfect location and big pitches.
Someone came every day to make sure the portaloos were clean as well.

Disliked Nothing - just read the description before booking as there is no running water or showers, but so long as you are aware you can come prepared.
