15 min drive from nearest town.
Disliked We were not sure exactly what entrance to use, perhaps a better sign as to how to get to each of the two main camping fields would be better.

Liked We loved the views and the fact that it was in the middle of nowhere! Very clean campsite with lots of space. The weather was very bad while we were there and we did have a few storms, the owner very kindly gave us some wood to warm us up and dried some of our bedding! We were very grateful as we would have had to go home if not. There was a beautiful hour and a half walk to the pub.
Disliked Nothing was a beautiful weekend.

From the manager: Sometimes in life, if you can't say anything nice, it's better to say nothing at all, but I'll disregard that gem of advice for now.
For the benefit of anyone reading this, the lady in question was a solo traveller, a lady of a certain age and I suspect probably not cut out for camping in the great British climate. She was travelling with an electric bike on a tour of the English lake district. A romantic notion but maybe the reality was a little different.
I like to help all my visitors where I can so I agreed to charge her electric bike, and her phone, free of charge, she also asked if she could store her electric bike in the barn so it didn't get wet, which I was happy to do. A little later she was concerned about the wind in the field and asked if she could move her tent into my garden where it was more sheltered. I also agreed to this, happy to help a lonesome traveler, luckily everyone else camping that night seemed to cope with the stiff breeze as my garden isn't that big!!
Now I get camping isn't for everyone but I'm not sure where I went wrong to get an overall review score of 3/10, individual scores of 1/10 for value for money, facilities and cleanliness. What was she expecting for £20?. It almost seems like her review is based upon the presence of a portable toilet, now, this toilet is provided at my expense, rented from and serviced by a third-party business so that people don't have to make the walk across the field to the main toilet and shower facilities if they don't want to. I'm not overly impressed by the service of the toilet provider either and it will soon be gone, but nobody has to use it, a short walk gets you to clean flushing toilets and hot showers and sinks, the choice is yours.
Anyway, I hope the lady who left the review found a campsite more to her liking for her subsequent stays and they met her high expectations...but somehow I doubt it!!
nice and quiet site - what I was looking for
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked yellow flowers all over the field, despite some might be saying neglected- I liked that, distant views - brilliant, fire pit and logs available on request
Disliked barely signed - a bit tricky to find at night initially, perhaps too simple facilities
Will visit again and would recommend
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Peaceful, all basics available, excellent views.
Disliked Washing up area could do with improvements.
