Cherry Trees Farm: View to the Solway Firth

General

  • Off-grid camping pods in a rural spot with gorgeous Solway Firth views
  • Five minutes’ drive to North Lakeland fells; 30 minutes to Keswick
  • Well-equipped pods with stove and private hot tub

On the northern fringes of the Lake District National Park, Cherry Trees Farm Campsite offers a couple of wooden camping pods with spectacular views over the Solway coast and the North Lakeland fells. This is a fab base for anyone wanting to explore the peaceful and beautiful county of Cumbria on foot or by bike.

Surprisingly, considering its remote vibe, Cherry Trees is only 15 minutes’ drive from the M6, and the historic villages of Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket (both 10 minutes) are packed with pubs and village stores to keep you fed and watered.

Although the location is very rural, there’s masses and masses to do hereabouts, from walking the fells to wild swimming on the Solway Firth (35 minutes), horse riding and golf. If you want to up the pace, there are ziplines at Honister Slate Mine (50 minutes), and if the weather turns, sporty types can stay active at swimming pools and leisure centres (both 20 minutes).

Back at base, the natty wooden pods are sited on the edge of a traditional hay meadow, and each is fully equipped to sleep two people – all bedding, towels, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are provided so you don't have to bother bringing everything from home.

Shared facilities include a shared LPG-fired shower and compostable loo, a small kitchen area and a sink with hot and cold running water. On top of that, a major-league bonus is the use of a private hot tub included in the price of each pod – there's no better way to relax after a day out on the fells.

Everything about this site is just perfect, the pods are lovely with everything you need for your stay. Alan is a star host , nothing is too much trouble , we had a problem with the hot tub on the last day and he came straight away to sort it out for us. Such a relaxing 3 days and the hot tub was fantastic especially at night with the water lights. Will definitely be back next year .

It was a very peaceful place to stay for the weekend. The host was very welcoming and friendly in a professional manner. The hot tub was personally my favourite and the dogs favourite was the big field where they had endless fetch games. Everything was well thought out.

Well we've arrived down a little lane turned into a field parked next to the pod and got out , firstly the view is absolutely beautiful. Then the peace and quiet hit us. Wonderful. The pod was immaculate with everything u could need (I'm not a camper but I can cope with a bed in a pod !)yes the shower and toilet are eco ones but it's an adventure! The cherry trees hosts are friendly and could not do enough for us, any request possible they met. Excellent service and stay . Thankyou so much could not have had a more relaxing start. The hot tub was lovely to jump into after a busy day at Windermere . We brought a plug in camping fridge which is a must. Wigton is about 20 mins away for food etc.highly recommended for a peaceful relaxing stay away from everything
