  • Scenic working dairy farm 10 miles from Scafell Pike
  • On the outskirts of Gosforth on the edge of the Lake District
  • Farm tours, drying room and lock-up bicycle storage on request
Leap and lollop your way to Harebeck Holidays for peaceful rural breaks with mountain views near the Cumbrian coast. Set a mile outside the pretty village of Gosforth and 10 minutes' drive from Seascale beach, this site is perched on the western edge of the Lake District, making a great base for days out around the river Esk and Ravenglass. The Wasdale Valley, where Harebeck Holidays is located, has lots of mountain views to liven up the scenery, including vistas over Scafell Pike, England's tallest peak. Let yourself get fully immersed in the countryside or try paddleboarding on Wast Water – and don't worry if your clothes come back a little on the damp side, as the site has a handy drying room where you can leave your boots and outdoor gear to air out. Other on-site facilities include a bathroom block with two separate showers and three toilets, as well as extras like a changing mat, step, toddler seat and hair dryer if you need them; bath towels are provided. Outside, there's secure lock-up bike storage available on request, as well as a washing-up unit with hand towels provided. When it comes to sourcing provisions, you can order eggs or a meat or veg pack from reception (at least 48 hours prior to arrival) or buy a disposable barbecue pack from site staff. Stocking up for the long haul? Harebeck Holidays is happy to take supermarket deliveries too. There's also a lovely coffee shop in Gosforth, just 15 minutes' walk away. You may also get the chance to go on a farm tour where the owners explain their agricultural methods and show off some of their prize animals.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. A farmyard tour can be arranged on arrival or a landscape walk with nature around the farm. So if you want to know how we care for our animals and work with nature in a sustainable and regenerative way speak to me after settling in.

Powered gravel campervan campsite

Liked: Lovely, rustic site with the most stunning of views. Surrounded by fields full of sheep and cows. Very clean toilets and showers. Lady owner who was so friendly and welcoming. It was so peaceful. A perfect site for us. We were lucky enough to wake up as the sun was rising over the hill tops and got to watch the farm dog doing her work. Will 100% come back if we’re back in the area.

Disliked: Lots and lots of cats. Which overall weren’t a problem, but more unexpected. We’re just not cat people. But they were very friendly. Everything else was just great.

From the manager: Thank you for your review we will be pleased to welcome you back. We have quite a few of our own cats and strays seem to turn up too. Two or three consider our glamping site their territory and are very friendly.

Excellent site with great facilities for a romantic break away.

Owl Hoot camping pod

Liked: Loved the owl hoot pod. Located in a beautiful setting, we loved how romantic it was. The pod was extremely well equipped with everything you could wish for including a fridge, toaster, kettle, rice cooker, microwave, air fryer, cutlery, plates, glasses, bedding, towels, you name it this pod had it. An especially nice touch was a bottle of wine in the pod on our arrival. Highly recommend staying here, we're greeted by the host who was very warm, friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be staying again soon.

From the manager: Thank you for leaving a review. We set Owl Hoot and Sheep Fold up as we would like a place to be should we stay and glad to know you appreciated this and feel we have covered everything.

Liked: The views looking towards Wasdale were beautiful! It’s such a lovely place with great facilities and Cathryn and family were lovely and friendly! We even got to help with feeding the lambs, which were very cute! Loved all the cats too, one in particular was very friendly!

Disliked: A group had booked and were a bit noisy and messy, it didn’t spoil our stay but just felt they were inconsiderate as like I said Cathryn is lovely and works hard to keep the site looking nice.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. I did not realise when they booked that there were three vans who knew each other as friends arriving on the Saturday. I asked that they kept the noise down and they replied they were climbing Scafell next day and said they were having an early night to get up to travel up the Wasdale valley. Obviously they did not keep the noise down and left rubbish outside the showerblock and items inside too.
I will not be accepting bookings from them in future.
Nice to see Mopsy made herself known to you, she is one of my favorite cats.

Liked: The site in small and

Disliked: A group had booked. The noise, vile language and inconsiderate behaviour spoilt my stay.
Expensive for the facilities on offer

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: You booked the only remaining pitch which is for XL motor Homes and therefore charged out at the dearest rate. The facilities are on a par if not better than others close by with hot showers, hair driers, towels and bath mats provided at no extra cost.
I sent you an e mail apologising for the other guests behavior, I had asked them to keep the noise down on my last look around the site and they assured me they were having an early night, obviously not as you left after being disturbed in the middle of the night.
I did not realise all three vans were known to each other as they booked seperately, I have never had a problem like this before.
I am placing a notice on the end of the shower Block asking guests to keep the noise down and be considerate to others otherwise they may be asked to leave the site, this will have both mine and my husbands phone numbers displayed for people to contact us at any time even though contact numbers are available in the welcome booklet.
I really wish you had phoned me even though it was the middle of the night as I could have deal with the problem and asked them to leave.
If you do reconsider staying again please book early as your vehicle would have been suitable to park up on a campervan pitch at a much reduced rate.
