Eyeing up Cumbrian fells and mountains? Based on a working family farm in the Cumbrian countryside, Bridge End Camping is at the gateway to the western Lake District fells. Just 100 yards from the river Irt too, take yourself on a morning swim or spend the early sunlight hours fishing. England’s deepest lake, Wast Water, is just 15 minutes’ drive away for more water activities. If you’re feeling particularly energetic, Scafell Pike is within walking distance of the top of the lake, along with other sublime Wasdale and Eskdale mountains. Since Bridge Edge Camping is at the base of Irton Pike, there are more Lake District mountains a 20-minute walk from the site (and, of course, some simply stunning views from your base). When the sun dips behind the horizon, bring out your snacks and set up around one of the firepits available for hire on site. Wood can be purchased on site, so you won’t need to go running around the local towns trying to source your own. There's no electricity on site, but handy site features include showers, toilets and washing-up facilities. If you want an ice pack frozen, just ask the site. Fishing is available either on the private river stretch a short walk away or at the on-site fishing tarn. Treat yourself (you are on holiday, after all). The site can arrange for afternoon tea to be delivered to your pitch. Those drooling at the thought of freshly-barbecued skewers can request a barbecue pack packed with meat and fresh eggs straight from the local farm too. If you’re lucky, you may get to meet some of the farm’s residents. The friendly sheep always welcome a good cuddle. If you fancy a pub crawl or some other tasty nosh, Eskdale (20 minutes’ drive) has a fine pub selection and the village of Gosforth (10 minutes) has pubs, an Italian restaurant, a café and a village shop. There’s ice cream at Seascale beach (15 minutes) too, of course. No need to start your engine if you don’t want to – there’s another pub five minutes’ walk from the site and a tearoom and gift shop in the nearby woodlands, 10 minutes’ walk away.

Liked Site was absolutely brilliant. All places were kept clean and tidy. Nikki was brilliant with giving us some ideas of what to do and a particular highlight for my little cousin was the marshmallows she surprised us with! could not do enough to make sure we were sorted!
The site is beautiful and in a fantastic location, with lots to do everywhere.
Would definitely recommend and we will 100% be back.

Liked The campsite was excellent—spacious and well-maintained throughout. The amenities were cleaned daily and kept to a high standard. Nicky, our hostess, was outstanding. She was incredibly helpful in answering our questions about the local area and even provided us with firewood on our final night, allowing us to enjoy toasting marshmallows.

The camp was in driving distance of the lakes. Very easy to go out and explore what the Lake District has to offer.

Disliked We experienced a minor issue with flies and wasps, with the occasional one entering the tent. I would strongly recommend bringing citronella candles as a precaution.

Liked We absolutely loved our 5 night stay at Bridge End Camping. Facilities were always clean and cleaned regularly. The warm water for washing up and the outdoor toys that were available for anyone to use were brilliant. The site was lovely and quiet and plenty of space for everyone. Nicky was so friendly and accommodating and we were so grateful for her keeping our ice blocks frozen for our longer stay. She even brought our daughter some marshmallows for the fire pit when she learned it was her birthday. Great location for plenty of walks and hikes and a lovely stream for paddling. We will definitely be back for another stay!

Liked Amazing site with great staffs, we had an amazing time over the weekend, everything was 10 out of 10 from bell tents to toilets and showers. Would recommend and definitely will go again.

Liked The owners!! They were so lovely and made us feel really welcome. It seemed like nothing was too much trouble. We had a noise complaint on the first night, so I texted to let them know and they came straight away to ask the group to turn their music off. The facilities were always clean and never had a line, even though the site was a little busy. The site has lovely views, and Wast Water is only 5 minutes down the road, so my partner and I went for a wild swim on Saturday evening and it was heavenly! Will definitely be returning.

Disliked There can be some road noise as Wast Water and Scafell Pike aren't far from the site, but not enough to put me off booking again.

Cumbria’s gorgeous walks aside, Bridge End Camping is well-situated for a historical adventure too. Muncaster Castle (15 minutes’ drive) is a riverside castle with hawk and owl flying displays. Known by locals as ‘La’al Ratty’, The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Co.Ltd (10 minutes) revives the time of steam trains. So, take a journey by steam through the Lake District hills. Perhaps you’re in the mood for some more outdoor activities. If so, West Lakes Adventure (15 minutes) runs canoeing, kayaking, scrambling, canyoning and abseiling. If you’d rather sort your own, there’s a bicycle, paddleboard and kayak hire in Gosforth (five minutes).
