What customers say
Skelwith Fold earns top marks for pristine cleanliness, helpful staff, and gorgeous wooded grounds. Guests rave about the excellent restrooms with heated floors. Spacious sites, a well-stocked store, and proximity to trails and Ambleside are big pluses. Some find it a bit remote with spotty WiFi, and a few mention tight spacing, but most feedback is overwhelmingly positive.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (premium)
Liked The location, area and cleanliness excellent. The premium showers blocks were warm and the shower cubicles were large.
Disliked The hard standing was very difficult to peg anything in even with screw pegs and a drill.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (premium)
Liked The camp was very very well kept. The wardens were very friendly and offered help all the time. Bathroom and toilets were the best I have come across, clean and tidy and very warm. The pitch was very clean and easy to get to.
Disliked Not a dislike but if you’re not a walker or hiker you have to use your car.
The road in is a little bit tight
If they put a bar and restaurant in it would be a fantastic camp

From the manager: Dear Graham, thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the cleanliness of the site, facilities and pitches, and that our wardens were friendly and helpful throughout your stay.
We completely understand your point about getting around without a car. While we don’t have a bar or restaurant on site, we feel that adding these would change the peaceful, natural experience that we work hard to offer. Fortunately, there are several pubs and restaurants within walking distance of the park, so guests can still enjoy a meal or a drink without needing to travel far. There are also local taxi services available, and there is a bus stop just outside the park gates, which provides an alternative for those who prefer not to drive.
It’s wonderful to know you enjoyed your stay overall, and we hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Liked Lovely site, been here on a few occasions. Good base for some lovely walks. Nice walk into Ambleside. Good bus service from entrance. Nice pizza from the van on a Wednesday.
Disliked The red road up to the site can be a bit of a struggle after a day out.

From the manager: Dear Cheryl, thank you so much for your lovely review and for returning to stay with us! We’re delighted you enjoy using the site as a base for exploring the beautiful area, with the walk into Ambleside, local bus service and our Wednesday pizza van all being firm favourites.
We appreciate your feedback about the red road up to the site — we understand it can feel like a bit of a challenge after a long day of walking! We hope the beautiful views and peaceful setting make the journey worthwhile.
We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

Liked Nice quiet friendly site staff were very helpful, pitches was a nice size, toilets and showers were very clean and plenty of hot water, nice walk around the site and surrounding areas beautiful views
Disliked Not been able to get on site till two o'clock when there was a load of empty pitches which you can pick for yourself when on site

From the manager: Dear Alan, thank you for your lovely review! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, spacious pitches, clean facilities, hot showers and beautiful walks and views. It’s also great to hear our team were helpful and friendly.
We do understand your frustration regarding the 2pm arrival time. Our team has a relatively short window between departures and new arrivals to prepare the park, and although you may see some empty pitches, there are still facilities and pitches that need to be cleaned, checked and made ready for our arriving guests. We want to ensure everything is presented to the high standard our visitors expect when they arrive.
Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back soon!

Five Star Site
FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (premium)
Liked Showers and laundry excellent site clean and staff friendly
Disliked The pitched were on stone and not attractive. Was told to go pick a pitch on arrival as none allocated. Drove round with most with reservations on them only 2 spots out of 30 free. Site not really for children very quiet

From the manager: Dear Jason, thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you found the showers and laundry facilities excellent, the site clean, and our team friendly.
We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the appearance of the pitches. Due to the typical Lake District weather we experience, our hardstanding pitches are specifically designed to provide a practical, reliable surface in wetter conditions. We understand that they may not have the same appearance as grass pitches, but this is something we feel is particularly important for comfort and accessibility throughout the year.
We also appreciate your comments regarding pitch allocation. We don’t pre-allocate pitches, as we prefer to give guests the flexibility to choose their preferred pitch on arrival. During school holidays and other busy periods, however, availability can naturally become more limited, particularly for guests arriving later in the day.
We’re also sorry that the site felt quiet and not particularly suited to children. We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly site, with our large outdoor adventure playground, library, nature trails and nature hide, all designed to give families plenty to enjoy. We appreciate that everyone has different expectations, and we’re sorry that the atmosphere during your stay didn’t meet yours.
