General

  • Award-winning sociable park in a valley next to the River Wharfe
  • A 15-minute drive to Wetherby, 20 to Harrogate and 30 to Leeds
  • Dayroom with a reading lounge and snooker table; pub serving food

If your travels usually revolve around sorting out your sweet tooth, organise a weekend away at award-winning Maustin Park in west Yorkshire’s lower Wharfe valley, to make the most of the on-site Stables Bar and Restaurant. While there's a full menu of omemade food cooked from locally sourced ingredients, the owners reckon the desserts are legendary throughout the local area; it might be worth booking a stay on this basis alone...

For savoury sorts, Sunday lunch and fish ‘n’ chip Fridays are also raved about and can be chased by a tipple from the selections of local ales and wines while swapping travel tips with other guests in this social hub.

Tend to feel sleepy after strenuous stints of indulgence? Snooze everything off while surrounded by the park’s peaceful greenery or in the reading lounge; alternatively, you can get a game in on the bowling green, start up a snooker match in the dayroom then head for a wander beside the River Wharfe (minutes away on foot). Fishing can be had on the water and birds can be spotted in the trees during your walk: the park makes a great base for a twitching hol as species including rare red kites are often seen around the region.

More of a browser than a birdwatcher? Maustin Park’s in the middle of the Yorkshire triangle of Harrogate, Leeds and York, 20, 30 minutes and 45 minutes’ drive away respectively. Wetherby’s 15 minutes away and holds a town market every Thursday.

If you’ll be bringing back food from one of the stalls here or have leftovers from the on-site pub, a freezer’s on hand for storing grub. Other handy amenities include toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a laundry room plus waste disposal and water taps.

Really enjoyed our stay our log cabin had a tv which was a bonus with young children. Not far from York where we had an amazing aday out seeing all the sites . Then went to Harrogate to Bettys tea rooms which was amazing the kids really enjoyed it .
The site was quite but as we were away from everyone it didn’t really matter the kids made a bit of a noise . I will definitely go back thanks for a lovely stay .

The pod was clean with a table chair TV and electricity plugs.
There is a table and tap (not drinking water) outside and a BBQ area.

It was good to have a restaurant on site but we ventured out to the scotts arms and the food was amazing.

The shower and toilets were very clean and the shower was hot and powerful.

    Disliked:

The bed was extremely uncomfortable and a blind on the small window would come in handy. We will bring an extra thick mattress topper with us next time. However, for the cost of a new mattress, I think it would be useful to replace them. There are only 3 pods.

It would be nice to have a secure area for dogs to go off lead as they have to stay on their lead at all times and the pods are right next to the road. Next time we will get a 5m lead with a stake.

    No WiFi at the pods.

Large sink area to the side of shower block with hot water for washing dishes etc.Great bar restaurant but only open from Thursday to Sunday

    Disliked:

Only 1 chair on decking which we brought in during rainy weather..would benefit from a second one.
Blind needed on small window so you can open in hot weather without people staring inside.
Move the bins area away from pods
Worth noting there's no shop on site for necessities..nearest shop 3 miles away.

Local attractions

Once you’ve ticked off trips to the independent shops of Harrogate, the Viking museum in York and the Royal Armouries houses in Leeds, it’s easy to get deep into the countryside as the site’s about a 30-minute drive to the Yorkshire Dales National Park in one direction and 50 to North York Moors National Park in another.

To blend a bit of history into days out in scenic surrounds, well-preserved old manors with pristine gardens are all around, like Harewood House (10 minutes’ drive) and Ripley Castle (30 minutes).

Soap opera fan? A visit to Harewood’s estate is also your chance to tour the studios and setting of Emmerdale (just make sure to book in advance).

Must see

  • Harewood House (2.1 miles)
