  • Award-winning sociable park in a valley next to the River Wharfe
  • A 15-minute drive to Wetherby, 20 to Harrogate and 30 to Leeds
  • Dayroom with a reading lounge and snooker table; pub serving food
If your travels usually revolve around seeking out good food, you'll likely do well at award-winning Maustin Park in west Yorkshire’s Lower Wharfe Valley, home of the excellent on-site Stables Bar and Restaurant. For not only does it have a full menu of homemade food cooked from locally sourced ingredients, the owners reckon the desserts are legendary throughout the local area; it might be worth booking a stay on this basis alone… The bar is open from Wednesday through to Sunday, with food and takeaway services at selected times, alongside a great selection of local ales, wines and flavoured gins. (See notices for more details of opening times.) Tend to feel sleepy after strenuous stints of indulgence? Snooze everything off while surrounded by the park’s peaceful greenery or in the reading lounge; alternatively, you can get a game in on the bowling green, start up a snooker match in the dayroom or head for a wander beside the River Wharfe (minutes away on foot). Fishing can be had on the water and birds can be spotted in the trees during your walk: the park makes a great base for a twitching hol as species including rare red kites are often seen around the region. More of a browser than a birdwatcher? Maustin Park’s in the middle of the Yorkshire triangle of Harrogate, Leeds and York (20, 30 minutes and 45 minutes’ drive away respectively). Wetherby’s 15 minutes away and holds a town market every Thursday. Handy amenities on site include toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a laundry room plus waste disposal and water taps.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel caravan site

Liked The site in general. Very friendly staff. Clean facilities. Lovely showers with plenty of room. Water and grey waste on each EHU pitch made staying easy.
It was nice having a restaurant on site too, though this isn't a big deal for us.

Disliked Very little not to like. River walk was pleasant but a leaflet with other local walks would have been a nice little extra.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel caravan site

Liked Beautiful and clean site in a great central location for Leeds, Harrogate, Wetherby, Otley etc. Great amenities. Very helpful reception staff. As a first timer is was a wonderful experience. Dog friendly - Digby was spoiled rotten with lots of meat from the carvery 😃

Disliked The only thing was the WiFi signal dipped in and out.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel caravan site

Liked Immaculate and very well kept site with only six generous sized, fully serviced, perfectly level gravel pitches. Very easy to get on/off.
Each pitch has paving to the edge and a grass awning area.
Excellent and very clean utility block very nearby.
Great pub on site.
All staff were super, very friendly and efficient.
The residents we talked to from the private static caravan side were all really nice, too.
Beautiful rural spot, with lots of local walks.
Lots of wildlife to spot including Red Kites, we saw a kingfisher down at the river, and the grounds keeper told us he sees otters down there too.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, but it is worth noting that you are a ten to fifteen minute drive to the nearest shop, and the mobile phone signal is weak / slow. Neither of these things were an issue for us, but this might be important to some people.

Camping pod

Liked Great site with welcoming staff on reception, and friendly maintenance guys.
The toilet/shower block was in immaculate condition and kept very clean throughout our stay.

We stayed in a Camping pod which was spacious and well maintained. It had a water tap next to it, and plenty of plug sockets inside.

Great quiet location, around 15 mins drive from Wetherby. Reasonable prices in the onsite restaurant.

Disliked Whilst this cannot be controlled by the site, there was an aggressive/reactive dog off-lead from one of the static caravans. The dog came running for my dog (who was very calm and on a lead) The owner didn’t seem to care and carried on exercising her dog off lead afterwards, with no apology or care in the world. Unfortunately, this has put us off returning.

Apart from that, no dislikes

Fully-serviced grass and gravel caravan site

Liked This part of the site was well designed. Each pitch was very spacious and well kept. Each pitch also had its own water supply and electric hook up. The pitches were lit up at night (not too bright, but bright enough for you to see - which was great) The toilets were nice and spacious and the shower area was great. There was a shower in a cubicle as well as an area to get dressed, all of which was behind a locked door. We visited the on site pub; which looked lovely both inside and out. The staff were very friendly too.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel caravan site

Liked This is a lovely touring site very clean very quiet being adult only. We found all the staff to be very helpful. All pitches are fully serviced ones and are nice level pitches. The toilets & showers are very close to the touring pitches and were very clean & well looked after. We had a meal in the Stables bar which was a really good size well presented & very tasty, we found it really good for the price. The wifi which is free was a bit hit & miss but you are in the country but it didn’t bother us. We will certainly visit again.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel caravan site

Liked The welcome was very friendly. Thrre are six very wellaintained and large places. The toiletblock is very neat, the shower the best I ever had on a campsite. It is very quilt and there are lots of possibilities for a good walk. Every pitch has its own water, wastewater and electricity.

Disliked There was not a great view.

Local attractions

Once you’ve ticked off trips to the independent shops of Harrogate, the Jorvik Viking Centre in York and the Royal Armouries houses in Leeds, it’s easy to get deep into the countryside as it's about a 30-minute drive to the Yorkshire Dales National Park in one direction and 50 to the North York Moors National Park in another. To blend a bit of history into days out in scenic surrounds, well-preserved old manors with pristine gardens are all around, including Harewood House (10 minutes’ drive) and Ripley Castle (30 minutes). Soap opera fan? A visit to Harewood’s estate is also your chance to tour the studios and setting of Emmerdale (just make sure to book in advance). If you're in the company of nippers, they may instead prefer to be taken to the treetop trails, enchanted forest and adventure playgrounds at Stockeld Park (10 minutes).
