What customers say

Spacious, affordable site with peaceful vibes & clean, basic facilities (portaloos, running water). Staff friendly, location near Hadrian's Wall praised. Some noted plane/road noise & waterlogged ground after rain. Fire pits avail.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked First time camping with my two young child who both have additional needs. Chose here as it wasnt too far away from home. Turned out to be amazing and will definitely be back! It was so relaxing and peaceful, loads of space for the children to play. Was a nice break from reality.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Easy access.
Large open flat field.
Portaloos were clean and accessible.
Easy to find and book.

Disliked Under a flight path.
Noisy inconsiderate campers up late.
No bins.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I’m sorry you couldn’t find the bins. There are 2 very large blue bins by the gateway to and from the field by the road entrance.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Two large fields with plenty of space

Disliked Road noise from A69
On the flight path for Newcastle airport
Only one tap for drinking water, which got quite muddy, even in a heatwave.
Only a small number of portaloos
One large family staying there was VERY noisy, until 1am
Very poor phone reception on site
No-one around to talk to/check in/check out - we could very easily have stayed without payment
As backpackers with a very small tent each we paid £15 each for this, which was very poor value

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Accessible, friendly and plenty of space. Very affordable and in a great location to visit nearby attractions.
The site is on the flight path and although it was a little noisy as they were quite low, it was great seeing them and making out which ones they were.

Disliked Not massively sign posted so have to keep an eye out. My only reason for not full stars, is due to a group of tents having very loud argument's at 1am and another couple “enjoying” themselves quite articulately. I appreciate this is not the sites fault, but awareness from this for consideration. It was just me and my young teenage daughter, a little awkward for her!

Local attractions

For rural explores, wander right into the farmlands from the site, join the Hadrian’s Wall at Heddon-on-the-wall (five minutes' drive), or feed the grinning alpacas at the nearby alpaca farm (five minutes). Those who prefer to travel on two wheels can hire a bike locally, glide alongside the river at Riverside Country Park (five minutes) or tackle England's largest forest in the west, Kielder Forest, where you'll need to pedal harder and faster to catch up with wriggling red squirrels and soaring ospreys overhead. History follows you everywhere you go in this area, whether it's Hadrian's wall (five minutes), the many historical beamed pubs or the birthplace of 'the father of the railways', George Stephenson’s cottage (five minutes). For a sandier day out, visit the craggy headlands of Tynemouth (35 minutes), whip out your bodyboard for Long Sands Beach, or raise your spears for action behind the battlements of the clifftop castle overlooking the beach.
