  • Spacious touring pitches at a site 15 minutes’ drive from Morpeth
  • Druridge Bay Beach 25 minutes’ drive; Dunstanburgh Castle half an hour
  • Indoor and outdoor play areas; on-site pub and grill; launderette
Forget Me Not Country Park – well, forgetting this site on the outskirts of the village of Longhorsley, 15 minutes’ drive from Morpeth, is unlikely to happen. For not only is the place surrounded by spectacular countryside, but it also benefits from a pretty privileged position, about 25 minutes’ drive from both Northumberland National Park (to the west) and the Northumberland coast (to the east), where expansive sandy stretches like grassy dune-backed Druridge Bay Beach await exploration. Open throughout the year, Forget Me Not has spacious, hardstanding and fully serviced touring pitches, as well as large areas of lawn where you can set up the barbecue (for provisions, there’s a village shop in Longhorsley and a supermarket in Longframlington, 10 minutes’ drive). If keeping a watchful eye on your bangers and burgers sounds like too much work, the on-site Prince William Bar and Grill serves fish and chips and sandwiches, not forgetting desserts with lashings of custard; there are also a couple of restaurants within a 10-minute drive along the A697. Outdoor and indoor playgrounds (a miniature adventure course and a soft play area, respectively) make the site popular with families, who might also appreciate the parent-and-baby room and the launderette. A modern shower and toilet block includes facilities for disabled guests.

The Paddocks FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Excellent toilet and shower block.
Whole site neat and clean. Flat pitches.
Bar and restaurant on site, quiet on evenings I was there.
Good tv reception and phone signal.
Not far to coast and other places of interest.

Disliked Large holiday park, mainly statics which is not my usual choice of site.
Some of the pitches on the small side but didn't feel too crowded.

would question if four showers are enough when busy

The Paddocks FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Quiet and pristine site. Everything was immaculate. Great showers and facilities. Pitch 14 was spacious and next to a small garden. The on site bar and restaurant served wholesome food which was good value. Wide range of drinks too. Good location for coast and Simonside Hills.

Great option for a quick stay or families holidays alike.

The Paddocks FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked very clean and well presented site and the onsite bar/resturant is lovely and reasonably priced

Disliked This is not a site I would be returning to. The pitches are close together and the site seems to have added motor-home provision as an after thought, it really isn't suitable for them. The chemical toilet disposal is, quite frankly, odd. You have to lift the chemical waste unit (loo) up above chest hight to tip it out into what looks like a sink (I checked many times to make sure!) the tap that normally provides water to rinse out the units had no hose and didn't fit any that I could see and essensially i would have been better off just emptying it down the loo at home, that would have been easier! The gray water waste are for motorhomes is in a parking space which is just big enough to hold the camper but the drain is at the top of a inclining area and is in the corner so there is no way that you can position the camper over it and the water will run off down the road. Most waste units are at the back of a motorhome but the narrow road that leads to the waste displosal is too narrow to reverse into to the space and you certainly can't reverse out and face the exit, you have to reverse and head into the static caravan area to turn round and then leave. The sensor for the gates it too low so you have to get out the drivers seat to hit the fob to raise the gate, the water supply on the serviced pitch has a normal tap which doesn't fit the standard adaptions for the hoses and there is no alternative water provision that I could see so luckily i was only staying 2 nights and had enough water on board. all in all this was a very expensive pitch which probably works for caravans but not for motorhomes so sadly won't be staying again (and that is a rare statement for me to make)

Wifi has to be purchased but the signal is intermittent and for most of the second day of the stay it wasn't reliable or working

Very well maintained site, lovely toilet and shower block, pitches perfect. Great…

Local attractions

Among the highlights at Northumberland National Park are the Drake Stone, a massive sandstone boulder; and Thompson’s Rock, also known as the Solstice Stone due to a hole that runs through it and that aligns with the midsummer sunset. The Simonside Hills are a top place for a hike, and you might spot deer and red squirrels. On a headland overlooking the North Sea, Dunstanburgh Castle (half an hour) now stands in ruins, but it must have been quite the forbidding stronghold in its 14th-century heyday. After checking out its ruined towers, walk into the fishing village of Craster to sample the local delicacy: smoked kippers. Step into the past at Beamish, the Living Museum of the North (45 minutes). This open-air museum recreates a range of settings typical of North-East England, such as a pit village at the turn of the 20th century, a 1940s farm complete with Land Girls, and a 1950s town.
