Liked Return visit very happy again. Beats looking at back and sides of multiple sites like some.

Disliked Some dog owners not picking up their dog mess. As a dog owner always clear up after my dogs.

Liked Location

Disliked Only 3 porta loos pretty disgusting. Two already blocked with poo a couple of hours after cleaning. Could smell them Ross field. Also sight on alight Hill. Only found one water tap next to a gate

From the manager: Thank you for your review, I did explain to your husband about the issue with Nixons hire not turning up before the bank holiday to empty the toilets. I cleaned the toilets 3 times a day to allow me to keep them cleaned. As explained the toilet roll was thicker toilet roll (as Nixons didn't turn up!) and it doesn't flush very well. I did apologise to everyone I saw on site. The toilets were very clean, just at times full.
There was enough toilets for the amount of people we had on site as a lot of people had their own toilets. Your husband did say you hadn't camped for 20 years, I hope you enjoy your next trip!

I believe I would visit again

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Loved the view
Staff were helpful and friendly
Perhaps a small play area would be beneficial

Disliked Toilets were an issue but staff did give an explanation about this, their cleaning company didn’t do what they were supposed to

From the manager: Thank you for your review. I was gutted about the situation but kept the toilets extra clean to try and compensate. I can promise they haven't done that this season, just this once. and for that I'm extremely sorry, the last thing we want is unhappy guests.
Thank you for staying and we hope to make it up to you in the future. If you choose to come back please give me a call and remind me of who you are. Thanks and take care

Didn’t use portaloos as we stayed in a caravan. Loved the location

Local attractions

Which way, captain? That’s what the kids might ask – and your answer may very well be the medieval hilltop fortress of Warkworth Castle (25 minutes’ drive), where the Duke of Northumberland once lived, or the 14th-century Dunstanburgh Castle (20 minutes). For good views, head to the Holy Island (40 minutes), a tidal island with an ancient priory. Northumberland National Park's Upper Coquet Valley surrounding the River Coquet (half an hour) is a dream for walks or bike rides, and the same can be said of Breamish Valley’s prehistoric hill forts (around 15 minutes). Further afield, the Kielder Observatory (an hour and a half) may be worth the journey for keen stargazers. Scottish border towns like Kelso (50 minutes) and Hadrian's Wall (50 minutes’ drive) are also within reach.
