Pitches
Pitches

  • Quiet site on the north-east coast between Filey and Scarborough
  • A 15-minute walk from Cayton Bay beach via a traffic-free path
  • Farm shop and café next door; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Some visitors wax lyrical about North Yorkshire’s coastline, while others are rather fonder of its countryside… so it’s handy indeed that you can easily check out both aspects of the county’s scenery during a stay at The Paddock Campsite. This quiet, friendly site is just outside the village of Lebberston, on the coast between Filey and Scarborough (both of which are within a 10-minute drive). For your seaside strolls, a traffic-free path runs down to the sands of Cayton Bay beach – it’ll take you about 15 minutes to get down to the beach, a wide bay that welcomes dogs all year round and is popular with birdwatchers, fossil hunters and rockpoolers as well as those seeking coastal walks or days spent on the sand. And for your country ambles, a drive of 15 minutes or so gets you up to the outer edges of the North York Moors National Park – although you can get a decent enough taste of the local scenery with the rural views around the park itself if you're not in the mood to travel far. Handy bonuses for guests at this site are a farm shop and café pretty much next door, and a pub about 10 minutes’ walk away. Barbecues and campfires are permitted on site if you fancy using some of that farm shop produce for alfresco cookery. Firepits are available on site to help with outdoor food prep and keeping warm; other facilities on site include three hot showers, three toilets, a clean water tap and chemical waste disposal facilities.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Good location, near to the beach, local pub, nearby shop.

Disliked There were a lot of flies - nothing the site could have done but it was unpleasant.
The shower and toilets were mixed sex and basic with the water often being cold.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Warm greeting. Good facilities. Excellent location.

Disliked Tricky to do anything about but the flies were a nightmare. It was like the battle of helms deep in my tent (I was heroic Aragon and flies the urak-hai).
Also the 10am leave by time felt rushed. An extra HR would have been massively helpful.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Had a 2 night stay. Fairly convenient location for our needs.
Facilities were ok but toilet roll was in short supply in the mornings - thankfully we had taken our own emergency roll.

Disliked Looking at other reviews we could have just been unlucky, but there was an obvious lack of quiet hours or enforcement of them. One night music was going until at least half one and was still noisy with loud talking until at least half 3.

Tents without ehu were quite closely pitched together.

Appreciate the site can’t do much about it but the amount of flies present was off putting - would recommend taking your own deterrents.

From the manager: Thankyou Ellie for taking the time to Review The Paddock Campsite.I must say that in terms of noise you were indeed unlucky last weekend as usually my site is quiet & campers adhere to quiet time after 10:30/11pm.The individuals creating the noise on Friday were spoken to several times & were subsequently asked to leave next day due to their disturbances. In terms of the non electric pitches these were marked out with posts & a few were in the same group & like to be pitched close together which they can be as they are non electric & this wasnt a problem indeed many campers spoke to me & said what a great ' Vibe' the Site had. Location wise The Paddock Campsite YO11 3NT is ideal for walkers & a very handy 10 min drive to Filey & 15 to Scarb. The Plough Pub & The Bull at Gristhorpe have been favourites amongst campers & glampers this season & many comment of the big portions at The Plough & great food at The Bull so Im very surprised by your comment.Further Cayton Bay beach is walkerble (20mins) & has surf school & Salty Dog Cafe so too is The beautiful Cleveland Way & many swimming pools & towns are extremely accessible drive from site so the location is ideal for many activities.

Excellent site, great location & welcoming host. I’ll book again.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely site, very welcoming host who was contactable throughout our stay.
The site is a short walk from a beautiful Sandy beach which does not seem to get overcrowded.
There’s a lovely farm shop next door that does a great cooked breakfast & a pub 5 mins walk down the road which serves huge portions.
The site welcomes you to bring your own fire pit & has toilets, showers & area to wash your dishes.

Disliked Would have been better to have a couple of separate toilets as all toilets had a shower inside so if all taken by people having showers then there’s a wait to use the toilet.
It’s only a small site so not a huge problem.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Location wise it was perfect to walk to Cayton Beach - it’s about a 20 minute walk and the beach is so quiet and beautiful
The site itself is very clean, the showers were good and the host was very kind.
We got a taxi into Scarborough and really enjoyed our evening there watching the dolphins.

Disliked A little bit far out if you’re wanting to walk to nice pubs for dinner etc. The Plough is the closest pub but unfortunately this was a bit of a dive. The farm shop next door is nice but this closes at 5pm. Aside from these two, there’s nothing else to walk to locally in the evening.
The campsite is very small and right next to the owners house, we felt a bit exposed as there wasn’t anywhere we could pitch up out the way if that makes sense but it’s perfect for families with kids or young women who want something small and safe. The size of it didn’t bother us in the end as we spent most of the time out but we were surprised when we arrived. This isn’t a deal breaker though, more personal preference

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Small peaceful site within walking distance of Cayton bay. Really great location to access nearby Filey or Scarborough. The facilities were clean with hot showers and the owners are really friendly. There is the option to hire a firepit and the campsite is close to a farm shop with cafe. Would recommend if you are looking for a small quiet site

Local attractions

This is a most handy spot for getting out to a couple of North Yorkshire’s most loved seaside towns, so plan for days at the beach and animal park in Filey or taking in the castle, Sea Life Centre and Alpamare waterpark in Scarborough (before hitting the beach again, of course). Both are around a 10-minute drive away. For another view on the coast, grab your binoculars and wander quietly to see what’s in residence at RSPB Bempton Cliffs seabird centre (20 minutes’ drive). Or for some days away from the shoreline, head out to meet the creatures at Playdale Farm Park (10 minutes), sample Yorkshire’s first single malt at Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery (15 minutes) or try out the inflatable course and all manner of watersports at North Yorkshire Water Park (20 minutes). Fancy leaving the car behind for the day? Stash the keys somewhere safe and set forth on foot for Cayton Bay beach, Scarborough Fair Collection & Vintage Transport Museum or a dip at Flower of May swimming pool – all are about 15 minutes away on foot.
