Campfire by the pitch

  • North Yorkshire pop-up site with spectacular views to Scarborough
  • On the Cleveland Way National Trail; Cayton Bay five minutes’ drive
  • Off-grid with all pitches facing the sea; farm shop 15 minutes’ walk
The clue’s in the name at Scarborough Sea View Camping, a pop-up clifftop retreat on the North Yorkshire coast. All the pitches face the coast, so you will indeed have spectacular views over the sea, in this case the North Sea to Scarborough (15 minutes’ drive), giving you a front-row seat on one of England’s most spectacular coastlines.   You can wake to vibrant sunrises and cosy up on clear evenings to watch sunsets in the west. And there’s more going for this peaceful site as well: it’s on the Cleveland Way National Trail, five minutes’ drive from a beach and 40 minutes from biking and hiking in Dalby Forest. There’s also a farm shop 15 minutes’ walk away, where you can get a decent coffee and homemade food (and a discount as a site guest). There’s plenty of room so you’re free to pitch up where you wish. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, and barbecues or firepits are allowed as long as they’re raised off the ground to protect the grass.  A couple of words of caution: Scarborough Sea View Camping is exposed. It gets very windy at times, so take care when erecting tents and ensure everything is well secured. Facilities are simple: a chemical disposal point and a water supply (although this comes directly from the mains, the site owners recommend that you use bottled water for drinking for your safety), but there are no toilets or showers on site. The access road is alongside a grass field, so please ensure that your vehicle is suitable for the terrain.

What customers say

This well-kept, no-frills campsite boasts spectacular ocean views of Cayton Bay and Scarborough. Guests loved the spacious sites, tranquil vibe, and great host communication. Clean portable toilets and easy access to the Cleveland Way and beach were highlights. Expect wind on the exposed cliff-top, but many found it a perfect getaway and plan to return.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked This was a very last minute booking while visiting Scarborough, it was very easy to book online and could arrive at the pitch late which was brilliant as this wasn’t booked until after 10pm, woke up to beautiful scenery, we did get a little lost due to not having the “what3words” app but once I spoke to someone on the phone for directions they were very helpful on directing me, beautiful place and very quiet will definitely be staying again

Will definitely be back to this little beauty.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked The views are amazing, you can use a fire, and there is plenty of room, with adequate portable toilets. Easy access to Cayton bay. You have options of walking to Scarborough along the cliffs or you can just as easy get to Filey. Nice walk to the local pub that serves food. Good communication on directions and all you need to know about the area.. Easy check in.
You do get pre warned about the flies, but we were well equipped to deal with that, its a farm you get it.

Disliked The price may be a little expensive for off grid, but the views make up for it.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Location. The view from every pitch is stunning. The beach is accessed via a short walk from the campsite field. Very level pitches.
There are 2 chemical toilets and one water tap, so extremely basic, but the view and location is what you come here for, not the facilities. Definitely worth the trade off.

Disliked The self check in is great, but there is a slight downfall. No-one is allocated a pitch and number. We pitched our Motorhome and a few hours later went out for dinner. We left markers and belongings on the pitch to show it was taken. When we returned our pitch was occupied by a tent that took up 2 pitches. Not a huge problem, we just collected our things and moved to another part of the field, but we’d have preferred to have been with our belongings on the original pitch. That said, it wouldn’t stop us going back. The views are amazing.

Local attractions

Walkers will perk up when they hear that the site is right on the Cleveland Way National Trail, while energetic surfers can catch waves at popular Cayton Bay (five minutes’ drive). Outdoorsy families can head for Go Ape or follow scenic biking and walking trails in Dalby Forest (40 minutes), and if the weather turns against you, there’s an indoor pool at Alpamare UK swimming complex (15 minutes). Scarborough (15 minutes) has lots to offer families: a clifftop castle to explore, mini-train rides down the promenade, boat cruises to look for dolphins, and a choice of sandy beaches backed by amusement arcades. There are cheeky penguin antics to laugh over at Sea Life Scarborough aquarium (20 minutes), which also has Yorkshire’s only seal hospital. If you prefer your days at the Yorkshire seaside with fewer crowds, head for Filey Brigg (10 minutes), where you can get the kids searching for fossils or exercising the dog along a nigh-deserted beach. Humanby Gap (15 minutes) is another quiet dog-friendly option, with stunning North Sea views from the clifftop path.
