  • Peaceful adults-only site 30 minutes' walk from Pickering
  • On the edge of the North York Moors and 30 minutes' drive to the coast
  • 80-acre farm site with riverside walks and stunning views
Holiday parks don't get much calmer than Westgate Carr Farm, an adults-only site a mile and a half outside the North Yorkshire town of Pickering. This spacious farm in the scenic Vale of Pickering is spread over well-kept land that's bordered by trees, a stream and fields (where the beady-eyed may spot both wild and domestic animals). Set halfway along a country lane, this award-winning 81-acre site is a few minutes by car from the edge of the North York Moors National Park, arguably one of the finest rambling spots in England (and it's within walking distance of the town centre too, if you've got any energy left…). The north-east coast at Filey or Scarborough can also be reached with roughly a half-hour drive. Not to be outdone by the scenic local surroundings, Westgate Carr Farm has a fair bit to keep you pottering around base for some of your stay, including a pond and a riverside trail where you're welcome to walk your dog. All kinds of fish and fowl can be spotted in this wildlife haven, so tread softly if you want to be in with a chance of spotting yellowhammers, swifts, kingfishers or trout along the way. It's worth planning to stay up late too, as the dark skies here are prime stargazing territory. The facilities at Westgate Carr Farm are also handy to have as well: there's an outdoor washing-up area, a luxury bathroom block (with toilets, showers, washing-up area and dishwasher), drinking taps, waste disposal points (including a drive-over grey waste drain) and a recycling area.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite (no awning)

Liked Lovely site, extremely well kept and very friendly hosts. Out pitch was lovely and clean, as were all the facilities.

Disliked Finding pounds for showers and then judging how long you have before it runs out is a faff. It would be easier just to have the pitch cost a few pound more. Wi-Fi connection seems to cut in and out a bit.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite (no awning)

Liked Lovely, immaculately kept, peaceful, quiet campsite.....we absolutely loved it!!
The owners were so friendly and helpful without being overpowering.
Nice sized, level pitches.
Nice little circular walk from the site by the stream to stretch your legs a bit.
Facilities were kept spotless, with a bit of piped music thrown in!
Walk into Pickering takes about 30 mins mainly down the long lane to/from the campsite.

Disliked Nothing at all!!!

We are delighted you enjoyed Pitch 21 with it's own "private" garden; it's a firm favourite for many!

Thanks for the great review & we look forward to seeing you soon

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (no pets)

Liked Very well laid out, nice size not to large, nice flat roomy pitch. Excellent services block, friendly owner. Also pleasantly surprised that there was WiFi .

Disliked I always resent having to pay for a shower, seems to be a UK thing, not all UK sites, I have camped extensively on the continent and never had to pay for a shower. I feel it should be included otherwise why not wild camp. If you (campsite owner) need extra to pay for a shower add a pound to the campsite fee .

From the manager: Thank you for the positive elements of your review George Malkin

Clearly, however, you have an issue with paying for showers 😂which begs the question as to why you book a site that Pitchup clearly states charges £1 for a shower!!

It's regrettable that Pitchup publish reviews from people like you that have all the information available to make an informed decision about your choice of site, proceed to book and then complain or write negative reviews

If you don't want to pay for a shower book an alternative site at a much higher price that includes the cost of providing the quality of accommodation and services we provide

You rate your value for money experience as 7/10 which astounds me. We only have 2 tent pitches in a paddock of just under 1 acre offering unprecedented privacy and open space for your enjoyment,.

Licensing allows up to 30 units per acre and we have 2 in an area of stunning views over open fields & the more distant North York Moors

We received £19 per night for your stay for 2 adults in a tent with water point, free wi-fi and picnic bench together with being provided with immaculate grounds, heated toilet block etc

Our fees include 1 vehicle per pitch but you arrived with 2 vehicles. Our Terms state we charge £4 per night for an extra vehicle but as you know we didn't charge you, saving you £12!. No mention of this in your review!

7/10 = £14 per night for a massive pitch, water point, free wi-fi, picnic bench, 2 adults and 2 vehicles. Do you genuinely think that is realistic? No, neither do we & nor would we expect any reasonably intelligent person to do so

Delighted you won't be returning; my tolerance levels are diminishing with age! Don't waste your time criticising us, focus on your own ability to read & understand the information provided to you

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite (no awning)

Liked Lovely views, wild life, walk by river, picnic bench, EHU and water at pitch.
Quiet and well ordered site, convenient for touring N Yorkshire, Pickering is a nice town with all amenities.
Spotless toilet facilities, Hope to come back soon.

Disliked Couldn’t have awning at pitch (no bigger pitches available ) which would have been a problem in bad weather but luckily no rain.

Local attractions

Whether you've come here craving the classic seaside buzz of Scarborough (30 minutes' drive) or prefer more low-key jaunts treading the footpaths and beaches around Filey (40 minutes), you'd do well to squeeze in a trip to the coast or two during your stay here. Looking inland, the main highlight of the local area has to be the North York Moors National Park (a few minutes' drive), where you can pedal through the trees of Dalby Forest (20 minutes), conquer the canopy at the nearest Go Ape (20 minutes) or head to Grosmont (30 minutes) for steam train rides and cosy village cafés. Make a point of seeing the Howardian Hills too – especially Castle Howard (30 minutes), its undisputed highlight. For informative days out with just a hint of history, you've got Ryedale Folk Museum (15 minutes), an open-air heritage centre where you can wander around historic buildings and learn about rural life in Yorkshire from the Iron Age to the 50s. Proper medieval buffs, meanwhile, will be pleased to note that this site is within striking distance of York Minster, Clifford’s Tower and St Mary's Abbey (all 50 minutes).
