  • Scenic spacious site on the edge of the North York Moors National Park
  • Two playgrounds, indoor play area, bike hire and pitch and putt
  • Award-winning amenities, licensed shop, and homemade cakes for sale
Families, couples and even the family dog, get ready to strike gold. Popular Golden Square Touring and Camping Park on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is an absolute gem of a site – safe, scenic, spacious, well-maintained and with enough to do to keep guests of all sizes busy for days. Once the kids are persuaded to leave the two outdoor playgrounds, indoor play area, pitch and putt and football field, countryside walks and trails start direct from the park; seaside frolics at Scarborough and surrounds are an hour away, and a sports centre with indoor pool is five minutes’ drive down the road. Those who prefer to take to two wheels can hire bikes on site and ask the Golden Square owners for info on the best cycling and mountain bike trails in the area; there be loads. Away from the hum of activities, Golden Square has glittering little touches all over: two luxury stonebuilt and heated toilet and shower blocks – previous winners of the local Loo of the Year accolade – as well as two disabled/family bathrooms. An on-site licensed shop sells caravan accessories, toys, games, groceries and essentials like bread and milk (it sells daily newspapers and homemade cakes too; a golden opportunity for afternoon relaxing in the sun, perhaps…). Pitches are warm, sheltered and kept secluded by specially planted trees, hedges and shrubs; the park has also been designed on three levels so that even in the height of the summer season it doesn’t feel crowded. And as it’s North Yorkshire, the views at Golden Square are gold-standard too: moorland, forest and farm stretching all around and into the Yorkshire moors.

Highly-rated, spacious campground with immaculate facilities and friendly staff. Guests love the play areas, dog fields, and well-stocked shop. Minor complaints: hard ground for tents and occasional noise.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Check-in was friendly and efficient and we were given a pitch in Rally field which was perfect for us- in the corner tucked away in a peaceful spot. Toilet block was a convenient distance and kept really clean and tidy, despite the high footfall. Curfew was well kept to, so we all had a good nights sleep.

Disliked We had booked on a busy weekend so we’re grateful to be placed where we were, as the main area was very busy with lots and lots of children playing and running around. Great for families of young children though, as I’m sure they all slept well later on!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Visited in August for last 2 years with my young daughter.
We pitch up the top near the farmers field, lovely scenic views and only a minutes walk to the toilets which are always clean, and showers always hot.

Excellent play facilities for the kids.
The buggy man ( that’s what the kids call him ) drives around to quiet everything down at 10pm.

Disliked The shop opens at 9am.
People need milk at 8am! 🤣

Powered grass campsite

Liked Lovely location, great facilities and staff were all great. Good size pitches and lovely scenery

Disliked Out of the control of the park in a way but it was too noisy on a night. Having a toddler and being kept up by older children shouting past 10:30 was a challenge. There are options for a quieter plot but feel it wouldn’t suit me as it was only at night that the noise was an issue.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Friendly and very clean site, everything conveniently spaced with plenty of loos and showers and water taps, didn't have to queue even though we stayed mid August. Tents were well spaced out. Felt safe, was nice having the wardens and they did a drive round to check on noise levels about half ten. It was quiet after 10.30 but some nights it was quite lively up to that point, but I think you can expect that on a child friendly site mid summer. Was OK but had to put kids to bed late as they wouldn't have settled with the noise of other kids playing, would have been tricky with a baby or toddler, my youngest is 4 so it was doable.

Disliked Had to bring some recycling home because everyone just puts general rubbish in all the bins, I've yet to find a campsite where people actually recycle. Not the sites fault.

Liked Excellent site & fab for kids. Toilets/showers always clean

Disliked Extra charge for size of tent when arrived to pay balance with nothing wrote anywhere else & was plenty of room on the pitch so not sure why extra charge.
Ground- now need new pegs!! So hard & rocky underneath where it had been purposely built up, a few had the same problem.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your review — we're really glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us!

Our site is actually built on an old quarry, which means the ground is quite rocky. On the bright side, this gives us excellent drainage — ideal for the unpredictable British weather!

Regarding our pricing, we do apply a 'large tent supplement' for tents larger than a 5-man, and there’s also an additional charge for caravan awnings. A full breakdown of our pricing is available on our website if you'd like more details.

Thanks again for your feedback — we hope to welcome you back soon!
