  • Well-equipped modern park 10 minutes' walk from Mappleton beach
  • Hornsea attractions five minutes' drive; half an hour to Hull
  • Dog-friendly site; food pub a short walk away
Off to the beach in Yorkshire? Actually, why limit yourselves to just the one? Both Cowden and Mappleton beaches are within half a mile of Southfield Touring Park, so you can pop down to either one whenever you feel like it… You can take the dog with you too, as there are no restrictions when it comes to letting them have a splash in the sea and a run about on the sand. They’re very welcome back on site too, but will need to be kept on leads and cleaned up after at all times. This is a modern site with similarly smart facilities, including a washing-up area, a wifi connection and a heated toilet/shower block. You’re allowed to bring a grill along with you to stay at this park, with the nearest supermarkets being in Aldbrough or Hornsea (both about five minutes' drive). If you’re not in the mood for tending to a barbecue, you may be pleased to hear that there’s a coffee shop at the beach and a lovely local pub five minutes’ walk away that serves good food alongside a range of ales and other drinks. When you’re not playing about at one of the beaches by the site, you might like to head up the coast to Hornsea (five minutes’ drive) for a small animal park, a farm park and a boating lake (plus another beach…) Hull and Beverley are both within a half-hour drive if you’re after more of an urban day out.

Liked Stayed pitch 13, great location. The owner cleans throughout the day and evening, facilities were spotless throughout our stay.
The site was full, however noise levels were low, all guests respecting each other. Small bar, full over the weekend and very reasonably priced.
You can walk to Mappleton and on to Hornsea along the costal path. Great stay will return againl

Liked Very clean and tidy peaceful site. Showers and toilets really good like having your own bathroom 10 out of ten for that. Very nice couple who couldn’t be more helpful . Nice bar set up with a game of bingo on the Saturday night which pleased the wife. All in all loved the site

Liked Lovely clean site. Very well maintained. Bathroom/toilet/shower rooms really clean. The Keg Shed is great, with a good choice of beers, ciders, etc. The site is run by a fabulous friendly couple Terri & Rob, who always make you feel welcome, like friends actually.

Liked Great pitches, sizeable with gravel and grass, superb facilities and a bar. Bus service close by and a 15min walk to a great dog friendly beach.

Disliked Currently has a new site of holiday homes being built next door which meant Friday at 7:30am we were woken by a digger the other side of the hedge. Would be ok at weekend.

Liked Everything! This is a gem of a site with the loveliest hosts. It is our second time here and we plan to re-visit next year. The site is extremely clean, spacious pitches (the luxury of some being fully serviced too) and the facilities are just great. The Keg Shed is a wonderful place to socialise and enjoy food that is sometimes offered (pie is delicious!).

Disliked That we had to leave!!

Liked Lovely clean site, very tidy, run by a friendly couple, nice size pitches.

Disliked I think a shop where you can buy basics would be a good addition.
The 10 minute walk to beach is slightly longer than 10 on very narrow pavement with traffic passing at speed.

Local attractions

Mappleton beach (10 minutes’ walk away) is an undeveloped stretch of sand that allows dogs all year and has a nice coffee shop where you can warm up after a long walk or a dip in the sea. Cowden beach (10 minutes) is another pretty little sandy cove that was once used as a RAF training ground – old shells can sometimes be spotted among the rocks, as can fossils. Up in Hornsea (five minutes’ drive), there’s a golf club and shopping outlet, plus boating on Hornsea Mere and animals to meet at Bugtopia Hornsea Zoo and Honeysuckle Farm. To see marine creatures instead, head into Hull (half an hour), home of the excellent The Deep aquarium. For a glimpse into the area’s history, head into Beverley (25 minutes) to see the minster and museum, or stop by at Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (15 minutes), where you can tour the grand house, stroll through the Capability Brown-designed parkland and find various activities and play areas for the kids.
