  • Adult-only pitches on a peaceful smallholding with a wooded area
  • A 15-minute drive to Beverley, 20 from Hull and 25 to Bridlington
  • Eggs, fruit, meat for sale on site; firewood provided by the owners
Farm days and secluded stays? West Field Farm Camping is a well-maintained adults-only site on a smallholding with a small wooded area, in remote location but within easy reach of urban and seaside days: Beverley is 15 minutes' drive form here, Hull is 20 and the coast at Bridlington within 25. There's loads to do in this East Yorkshire setting, such as fossil hunting at the pebbly and sandy shores of Mappleton 15 minutes’ drive away, or driving 20 minutes west to rifle the racks at the discount shops of Hornsea Freeport. Burton Constable Hall & Grounds, an Elizabethan country house with a busy events schedule, is 10 minutes from the farm. Back at base, there's a designated area for gathering round the campfire, with lots of wood provided by the friendly owners as well as home-reared meats like bacon, burgers, steak and chops for sale. There's plenty of space around the grassy grounds for lazing about on too (with a cuppa made using the hot water from the outdoor tap), and options to pick your own fruit in season at the big garden or collect eggs laid by the hens.

Local attractions

Hull’s 20 minutes away from the park if you’d like some city living to balance out countryside roams; sights to see here include the mighty Humber Bridge towering over the estuary, The Deep aquarium and sealife complex (set in a structure built to look like a ship) and the European paintings at the Ferens Art Gallery. The area around Hull has masses of history too: check it out at Elizabethan manors like the Burton Agnes Hall Elizabethan manor (25 minutes away from the site), the Grade I listed Sewerby Hall and Gardens (35 minutes) with its 50 acres of gardens and the Georgian-era Sledmere House (35 minutes). Go coastal instead at the seaside town of Bridlington with a harbour dating back to before Roman times (25 minutes); the RSPB Bempton Cliffs Seabird Centre are just outside here (about 40 minutes from the park) for busting out the binoculars in the hopes of spotting northern gannets, Atlantic puffins and razorbills.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful little site with lovely surroundings. The owners are so welcoming to their smallholding and take great care with keeping everything tidy and clean. Fresh cut flowers are a nice touch too. Loo and shower are simple but effective; flat site with only a few tents, easy to pitch up. Having the farm animals around is just lovely and a stroll around the woods and garden very relaxing. Great for visits to East Yorkshire countryside and coast.
