General

  • Secluded park on a peaceful smallholding farm with a wooded area
  • A 15-minute drive to Beverley, 20 from Hull and 25 to Bridlington
  • Eggs, fruit, meat for sale on site; firewood provided by the owners

Farm days and secluded stays? West Field Farm Camping is a well-maintained park on a smallholding with a small wooded area, in remote location but within easy reach of urban and seaside days: Beverley is 15 minutes' drive form here, Hull is 20 and the coast at Bridlington within 25.

There's loads to do in this East Yorkshire setting, such as fossil hunting at the pebbly and sandy shores of Mappleton 15 minutes’ drive away, or driving 20 minutes west to rifle the racks at the discount shops of Hornsea Freeport. Burton Constable Hall & Grounds, the Elizabethan country house with family activities and events, is 10 minutes from the farm.

Back at base, there's a designated area for gathering round the campfire, with lots of wood provided by the friendly owners as well as home-reared meats like bacon, burgers, steak and chops for sale. There's plenty of space around the grassy grounds for lazing about on too (with a cuppa made using the hot water from the outdoor tap), or you could take the kids to pick fruit in season at the big garden and collect eggs laid by the hens.

For smaller travellers a big play area and sandpit are on the site too, as well as animals ranging from cows, calves and horses to pigs, sheep and ducks for gandering at from behind the fences.

Please note

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Very friendly owners, who cannot help you enough. They are very accomodating to make your stay be as nice as possible. Loved the little touches of sandpit and gem searching for the little ones. Ideal for families as the place is so secure so children can go off and explore whilst still in view. Owners encourage children to help feed the animals, which is always exciting.

The pitch is very intimate, so ideal to go with a couple of friends and you would have the place to yourselves.

The composit toilet and shower room is very clean and well maintained.

This is our 2nd visit in last month and will be booking again if we get a warm september

Very convenient location. The pitches were lovely, felt very secluded and very well looked after. Very clean facilities. I liked the fact there was a little fire pit and wood (though I didn't use it)

Stayed two nights as a family of 4 including a 7 & 9 year old and camped in Zak's Wood; We all loved it! The owners couldn't have been nicer, and they were always ready to take time with our children, who hugely enjoyed feeding Fiji and Joe (the horses), and the cows and pigs. The owners also invited the children to collect eggs from the chickens and guinea fowl, and lent them (the children) scooters to use around the site. Unbeknown to us they'd kept the horses in a paddock by the wood for an extra two days (they normally live across the main road) as they'd noticed how much the children enjoyed spending time with them.

It's a small site so just a portaloo and an excellent compost set up for toilets but both were immaculately clean, and the shower was really good and warm.

The main road is quite fast but well away from the pitches so no worries about roaming children. The bonus is easy access to Hull and the coast if you've come from outside the area to visit places like the Deep (approx 20 minutes) and/or beaches above Hornsea.

We enjoyed a great camping stove breakfast with excellent value sausage, bacon and eggs from the farm shop. Site is ten minutes walk from Bay Horse in Arnold that also did a good pub meal and has a large beer garden and an outdoor play area.

Lovely peaceful rural site. Views of ponies pig and cattle. Facilities were quirky and ingeniously made. They were clean and extra cleaning supplies were available, even washing up liquid and a bowl.

Fire pits and wood were provided. We enjoyed cooking on a real fire.

The owners were so friendly and helpful nothing seemed too much trouble. We will be back next year.

So we arrived back home yesterday from a nights camping here, and we had one of the best nights camping ever we usually go to the haven sites to camp but thought we would try something different I took my daughters aged 3 and 7 and they didnt stop smiling we camped in zacs wood and it was lovely right near the horses which my daughters absolutely loved, fire pits provided also which was nice, toilet was a lovely clean compost toilet, we was greeted by the man who showed us around and was very lovely, then the next morning we was packing up and the women came over and said she came this morning to see if the kids wanted to pick some of the chicken eggs and noticed the state of the woodland area we stayed in and she was very upset and angry and she said this in a very rude manner and went on to say shes had over 50 children stay in the area and it's never been so bad and I was just looking around in pure shock because I couldn't understand what they had done so bad especially to say they is quite a few things for the children to do and notes for the children so surly she must no what children can be like, admittedly they did pick a few leafs but not many at all, we forgot a torch so when it got dark it was pitch black you couldn't see anything so we didnt even get chance to move some of the rubbish from the bbq we had or anything as she came round so early in the morning, but when we arrived they was lots of dead leafs around and because it had been raining for couple of days it was abit muddy and most of the trees and bushes didnt have many leafs on anyway(which is obviously expected anyway) and then she went over to speak to my daughters who was at the time stood with the ponys and my youngest daughter had a leaf in her hand and she ran over and so forcefully snatched the leaf out of her hand she actually nearly sent her flying it left my 3 year old daughter who has alot of ongoing issues at the moment in absolute tears she was traumatised, I was so upset and grabbed her and walked back to the tent to carry on packing away our things as fast as I could as I just wanted to get home at this point, I just couldn't understand because by the time she came back round and said this we had tidied up everything and it looked exactly the same if not better as we picked the dead leafs up too, she then followed me saying please can I take them to pick some chicken eggs I said no thank you I just want to pack up and go home and she carried on asking saying please please please and I just had to ignore her as I was in absolute shock at what had just happened, just writing this review so familys with young curious children dont go through the same as we did i was so upset I couldn't stop crying all the way home, so this may not be the place for you unless your children are absolute Angel's, apart from that is was an amazing experience we had planned to come back so many times as I always wanted to find a place like this I could make memories with my kids in the holidays ect which wasnt far from home, but a real shame it couldn't of been handled differently.

Local attractions

Hull’s 20 minutes away from the park if you’d like some city living to balance out countryside roams; sights to see here include the mighty Humber Bridge towering over the estuary, The Deep aquarium and sealife complex set in a structure built to look like a ship and the European paintings at the Ferens Art Gallery.

The area around Hull has masses of history too: check it out at Elizabethan manors like the Burton Agnes Hall Elizabethan manor (25 minutes away from the site), the Grade I listed Sewerby Hall and Gardens with its 50 acres of gardens (35 minutes) and the Georgian-era Sledmere House (35 minutes).

Go coastal instead at the seaside town of Bridlington with a harbour dating back to before Roman times (25 minutes); the RSPB Bempton Cliffs Seabird Centre are just outside here (about 40 minutes from the park) for busting out the binoculars in the hopes of spotting northern gannets, Atlantic puffins and razorbills.

Or how about muddying the feet at North Cave Wetlands (30 minutes) and Tophill Low Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest about half an hour from the site?
