  • Well-maintained holiday park set around a 12-acre lake
  • A quarter of an hour's drive from Hornsea beach; Hull 30 minutes
  • On-site restaurant; fishing plus paddleboard, kayak and pedalo hire
There's a lot you can do when you stay somewhere with a lake. Holidays at such a spot can be as peaceful as they come, or you can opt for a break that's all about sports, outdoor activities and messing about on the water. So it's no surprise that both choices are on the cards at Dacre Lakeside Park, a well-maintained site on the edge of the East Riding village of Brandesburton. The camping accommodation here is set around a spectacular 12-acre lake, which as well as being scenic is a hub for all sorts of outdoor antics. With kayak, paddleboard and pedalo hire, plus on-site bring-your-own-tackle fishing, this spot caters to a whole range of holidaymakers on the hunt for a pleasant park near the Yorkshire coast. Bert's, Dacre Lakeside Park's on-site restaurant and takeaway, is also close by in a scenic location overlooking the water. Other leisure facilities on offer here include tennis courts, pitch and putt miniature golf, foot golf and bike hire. The reception building has a bar, table tennis, pool tables and a beauty salon too, all of which are a short walk away from a spacious and secure beer garden. Dacre Lakeside Park is a pet-friendly spot, and dogs are welcome to join you on breaks here throughout the season. Guests bringing a four-legged friend won't be short of places to take them for walks, as this site is a 15-minute drive from Hornsea beach and within easy strolling distance of plenty of paths and trails.

What customers say

This well-maintained campground gets high marks for its family-friendly vibe, roomy spots, and lovely lakeside setting. Guests love the many activities, especially watersports, mini-golf, and footgolf, plus the clean facilities and helpful staff. While a few noted occasional bar noise, most found it clean with good staff. Despite wanting more amenities like a shop, the overall feedback is very positive, with many planning return trips.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Absolutely loved this place. Enjoyed it so much we booked an extra night.
So much to do for all ages. Usually struggle with having kids with such a big age gap. But this place is perfect for kids of all ages. And was really relaxing on a night. Our tent was near the toilet so that was great, toilets and showers were pretty clean too! Reception staff were all amazing. So so friendly and very helpful.

Disliked Nothing at all i disliked about the place. We enjoyed our 3 nights.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The site is brilliant for children, very reasonably priced and I like that you can book just 1 night as many sites are minimum 2.

Disliked They advertise fishing but you cant fish unless you are in a lodge, this was a big let down as thats the reason we booked this site so my son could fish on the lake. They also said all bikes were out of use due to punctures and the brakes not working.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Fantastic set up and well maintained (don’t understand the negative reviews on showers/toilets?) - plenty of space (even when full), good range of facilities and of course the lake if you’re a fan of paddle boarding etc. Enclosed area to exercise dogs is a great addition.

Disliked Mention of a no open flames policy but not enforced - would’ve liked to have brought a fire pit if I’d known.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Flat camp ground - well maintained, grass cut short. Plenty of open space for families to play games. Toilets were clean - 8 available to campers. Couple of nice bars on site. Short distance to Hornsea. Quiet rule after 11. Also liked that there were no caravans mixed in with the tents!

Disliked Nothing.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Really liked how clean the lake water was, and the pitch size was just right!

Disliked I've visited this place twice, and both times I had the same issue: after taking a shower, I developed a rash around my face and neck. The first time, I thought it might’ve been caused by the shower gel, but when it happened again on our second visit—immediately after showering—I’m convinced the water in the showers is not clean.

You also have to pay to access the lake, even if you're self-launching, which seems excessive.

The music from the bar is extremely loud and continues until midnight. Unfortunately, it’s not enjoyable music—just noise, which really disturbs the atmosphere if you're looking to relax.

We requested a different pitch two and a half weeks in advance (having stayed previously and disliked being in the middle), but we were given the exact same pitch again. The first time, we let it slide because we booked late. This time, we made the request well in advance, so it was frustrating to see it ignored.

Having a central pitch was a terrible experience. Kids were constantly running and shouting around us. One group even broke our tent while we were trying to sleep, and we had to go speak to their parents. Another group of children—who weren’t even staying on site—were left running around while their parents drank by the toilets. One of them hit our car. It felt chaotic and poorly managed.

We also wanted to rent bikes, but the ones available were completely unsuitable—clearly children's bikes, with flat tires, rusted frames, and no maintenance at all. We tried to lift one and spin the wheel—it barely moved. Honestly, they shouldn't be charging for these; they shouldn't even be offered for free.

Additionally, there isn’t much to do on-site unless you’re willing to spend a fortune.

If you're looking for peace, cleanliness, or decent service, this is not the place for you. We gave it a second chance, but we won’t be returning.

Local attractions

If, after trying all the sporty facilities on site, you still haven't had your fill of outdoor life, you might like to spend a few hours on the greens at Hainsworth Park Golf Club (five minutes' walk), an attractive parkland course where there are 18 holes to play with. A little further afield, you can let the coast at Hornsey (15 minutes) and Bridlington (25 minutes) provide you with bucket and spade days, or head to The Deep (30 minutes), a huge aquarium in the centre of Hull, to find out what's swimming beneath the surface… It takes about an hour to get there, but the spectacular Spurn Heritage Coast – affectionately known as ‘Yorkshire's very own Land's End’ – is also well worth visiting for its birdlife and rugged seascapes. Dacre Lakeside Park is a well-connected place, so you can easily get out on day trips to handsome historic sites like the centre of York (an hour) or Castle Howard (an hour), one of the North's grandest stately homes.
