Or might you prefer wandering peaceably around the park's splendid woodland setting and woodland walk...?

The kids are sorted too – always an amicable option on holiday – with an adventure playground to keep them swinging about for hours, and the arts and crafts, karaoke, disco and outdoor activities of the kids' club which runs on weekends and during school holidays (small charge applies).

Guests of the roomy pitches at Carlton Meres have access to shower and toilet blocks, waste disposal points and fresh water points.

We used the swimming pool which was really clean my only grumble is that I couldn't find a fixed hair dryer to dry our hair and as it was raining that day and a bit cold we could have done without soaking hair (we where tenting with no elec.) But maybe there was one and I missed it!

The swimming pools were great. My little girl loved the disco. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Levi particularly helped my husband on several occasions.

    Disliked:

The noisy geese with poo everywhere. They really need to address this problem. You couldn’t stand anywhere around the lake without stepping in it. They were also really noisy at 4am. The check in process was a bit confusing as I got sent all round the houses.

We loved the new indoor pool and the pod was fresh, clean and comfortable.

    Disliked:

Could have done with coat pegs in the pods somewhere. During the day the club house seemed understaffed. WiFi was poor to non existent in the pods. Arcade had a lot of machines broken as it’s small anyway this meant little choice on what to play on.

Beautiful place, pods situated by the lake, lovely playground for kids and nice&clean swimming pool. Great entertainment for the whole family during the whole day. Close to the beach & woodlands.

    Disliked:

Showers and toilets were quite dirty, flooded every morning by blocked shower. I seen people reporting it to the members of staff..but it never got sorted.
Restaurant and food were ok, bit too expensive for what it was & long waiting times.

Pods were warm, clean and cosy. There was also a little bin which was useful. Indoor pool was good. Great to have the electric and phone charging points. Bedding was clean. Site had soft lighting at night. Lots of wildlife. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was lovely to be able to bar b q.

    Disliked:

Long walk to the toilet block. The website said parking was next to the pod and WiFi available. Parking is a short walk away so it would be good to bring a trolley, or have them available. WiFi doesn't reach the pods yet so don't rely on it being available. There was no mention of any recycling bins so assumed the bin in the pod was for non recyclables. Pods are quite close together so no room to put up a washing line to dry swimming towels. Recommend bringing an airer.

The pod, new clean and comfortable. Showers, swimming pool and clubhouse all new and in good condition. Fishing great.

    Disliked:

    Staff not trained
    Communication with guests is limited
Prices of drinks and food do not reflect the quality
Lots of needless and pointless rules. Like children have to be 8 or over to swim alone, my son is 8 and the lifeguard said he is too small, I said but he is 8? And he is a strong set but that didn’t matter as he was small?? But the ‘rules’ say 8 can swim unoccupied.
Showers in swimming pool don’t work properly but there is no explaining that on entrance which would then help you not get so frustrated.
When checking in if the reception staff explained a few things verbally, it would save so much unnecessary confusion, like breakfast is served until x time, swimming pool closed for lunch at x

Local attractions

After they've whirled around on site for a while, take the kids to the coast at Aldeburgh (20 minutes' drive) or Southwold (25 minutes) for days on the beach, buying freshly caught fish on the sands and enviously eyeing up the beach huts.

Walberswick (25 minutes) is also well worth a look, to birdwatch among its heath and marshlands, catch crabs on its beach or to take the ferry across the Blyth back to Southwold; you might spy some celebrity residents in this popular town too...

Both Felixstowe and Lowestoft are each within 45 minutes for additional Suffolk seaside trips; some time should be spent at Lowestoft for the Pleasurewood Theme Park too – and from there one can move onto the seaside at Great Yarmouth, an hour from the site, and the rest of the Norfolk coast or the Suffolk and Norfolk Broads.

Closer to home, take a trip to fab Framlington Castle (15 minutes) – where Mary Tudor was proclaimed queen, fact fans – and to Orford Castle (25 minutes), both managed by English Heritage and both rather spectacular.

See also, for wildlife-loving sprogs, the 2,000+ residents at Norfolk's Banham Zoo, just over an hour away, and walking among the parrots, mammals and reptiles of African safari park Africa Alive! at Kessingland (30 minutes), a colourful day out sure to have them squawking.
